Festive Hairstyles for the HolidaysFestive Hairstyles

These festive hairstyles are great for girls, teens and women. These work on anyone and look amazing when they’re done. They’re very easy and doable to do. Everyone always thinks that hairstyles are complicated and not possible for people to do, I promise – these are not hard.

Watch these videos and take them step by step. Re-watch them if you need to. These are all done and filmed in a way that you can follow these steps easily. I wanted to share photos that you can do on yourself and also one that you can do on your daughter and friends.

Christmas Themed Hair Tutorials:

Hairstyle #1: Candy Cane Twist

I love styles that I can do on my own hair. This is a sweet one to do on your hair and on anyone else’s. All you need is a red ribbon and 2 elastic bands.

I call this one the candy cane twist because that’s what my daughter calls it. It looks like a fun candy cane once it’s in your hair. You can mix this up with other ribbons, too. Have fun with it!

Steps for these Festive Hairstyles:

  1. Make a small ponytail tail on the top of your head.
  2. Take a ribbon and insert it into the elastic.
  3. Make sure the ribbon isn’t too long or short.
  4. Twist the ribbon through your hair (just like in the video).
  5. Band it and you’re done. Let it loose!

Style #2: Holiday Matching Braids

This is a super easy hairstyle for your daughter and it comes out looking adorable and so sweet. I prefer to use Christmas colors throughout the months of December for her ribbons, but you can use whatever you want.

This hairstyle is one for anyone who just doesn’t think they’re that good at hair. I love this style because once you step back, you’ll see how good you really are at it!

Steps for this Style:

  1. Make a ponytail in your hair.
  2. Take 2 ribbons and insert into the elastic band. Tuck them in so they don’t hang out.
  3. Divide the hair into 2 equal sections.
  4. Braid each section by using the ribbon as a 3rd braid section.
  5. Elastic band each section and “puff” the braid out (like I do in the video).
  6. Add some extra flair on top of the base of the ponytail.

Style #3: Holiday Low Bow Bun

This hairstyle has been one of my most popular festive hairstyles of the season. People seem to really love the bow tie bun. It’s a cute style for anytime of the year, but there’s something about this one during the holidays that just makes it special.

You can create this style higher up or by doing a half up hairdo. Have some fun with it and play around with it to see what you like the best.

Steps for this Style:

  1. Take your hair and pop in a ponytail. You can do a straight ponytail or a 1/2 up ponytail.
  2. Take an Elastic Band and loop it over the base of the ponytail.
  3. Slowly start to fan the 2 sides out so they form an arch.
  4. Fan the 2 pieces out to start making your bow.
  5. Take the tail and tie it to the middle of the ponytail base.
  6. Add bow or ribbons.

Style #4: Candy Can Messy Bun

I love anything where you can bring in candy. Did you ever think about adding candy canes as a hair accessory? This one is a fun one for you to do for the holidays. It’s sweet as can be.

All you need is 2 candy canes and 3 elastics bands.

Style #5: Holiday Messy Braided Bun

This style is a cute one if you’re looking for some messy bun or bun hairstyles. I love incorporating in bows and ribbons (as you can tell) into any hairstyles. I just think it adds some extra holiday cheer.

All you need for this style is 2 elastic bands and a red ribbon (or any color ribbon).

Holiday Hairstyles for Girls

Steps for this Style:

  1. Wrap your hair in a ponytail.
  2. As you’re getting to the last step of the ponytail, don’t bring the section through – let is hand (see the video)
  3. Take the red ribbon and tie it around the bun (as seen in video).
  4. Take the extra hair laying down and braid it, bringing in the red ribbon.
  5. Secure the braid and then wrap around the bun part of the ponytail.
  6. Secure into place with an additional elastic band.

Style #6: Simple Ribbon Braid

This is probably my favorite hairstyle because it’s simple and elegant and perfect for the holidays. This is a super easy one to do, so if you’re looking for very little effort – this is it for you and your hair. All of these festive hairstyles aren’t hard, but there are a couple that are just over the top easy (like this one).

Make sure you know that you can switch up the ribbon color, I love the color green so I added this one in.

Holiday Hairstyles for Girls

Steps for this Style:

  1. Make a ponytail at the top of your head to the side.
  2. Secure a ribbon into the elastic.
  3. Braid the section of this ponytail through your hair weaving in the ribbon as a section.
  4. When you’re done, secure the braid with an elastic band.
  5. Puff out the braid and make sure you can see the ribbon.
