Near East Couscous – Why It’s a Side Dish Staple

When it comes to dinnertime in our house, I have to say that I’m very blessed because my husband LOVES to cook. He preps and cooks and dishes out the most amazing meals. We always have staples in our house for dinnertime and one side dish is Near East® Couscous Mix.

Near East Couscous - Why It’s a Side Dish Staple

Our family is a busy one. We’re always on-the-go and seem to have 3 different dinner times for our family each night. What do I mean by that? My oldest 2 sons swim from 7:30-9PM Monday through Friday, so we have them eat around 6PM.

My other 3 kids will eat around 7PM, right when they’re done with homework and their activities. And my husband and I will finally sit and eat together around 8PM while 3 are settling down for the night and the other 2 are out at swimming.

Crazy? Maybe a little. But it’s what we’re used to and I’m sure every other family with multiple kids out there gets a schedule like this for their family. Since dinnertime is something we do in shifts right now, my husband loves to make sure meals are planned and that side dishes are easy to make and delicious to eat!

Near East Couscous is something we love and have ALWAYS had in our pantry because it’s just that for us. It’s easy to make and it’s absolutely delicious. You can take flavor further, faster with Near East Couscous’ delicious blend of delicious grains, herbs and spices.

Couscous takes literally minutes to cook. It doesn’t get much easier than that.

The best is that you can bring a world of flavor to your dining table with the globally-inspired and authentic flavors of the Near East family of products, which includes more than 30 different flavors and varieties of rice pilafs, couscous, and other grain dishes.

Near East Couscous - Why It’s a Side Dish Staple

We’re big pasta and rice lovers in our house, so couscous is the perfect combination of the two for us. It’s always a big topic in our house, but did you know that couscous is actually PASTA? My kids didn’t believe me, but it actually is pasta. How cool is that?

I wanted to showcase how we will make couscous at home at dinnertime. We’re BIG proponents of making balanced meals in our house for dinner and make sure the kids have protein and vegetables with every meal, too. My husband does an exceptional job at “whipping” together meals that not only look good, but taste good, too.

One of our weekly staples at home is chicken, vegetables and Near East Couscous.

My husband will bake chicken thighs in the oven with salt, pepper and olive oil. The good thing about baking chicken is that after it’s in the oven, you can forget about it for about 30 minutes.

While the chicken is baking, my husband will start sautéing some vegetables. We change the veggies up all the time, but always stick with items like carrots, broccoli, spinach, brussels sprouts, peppers, and corn. These are usually the ones we rotate through during the week.

For our additional side dish, we ALWAYS go with a rice or couscous. We prefer the taste of Near East Couscous and right now we’re *obsessed* with 2 particular flavors – Parmesan and Roasted Garlic and Olive Oil.

The flavor of these 2 are incredible. If you’re a cheese lover, you will love the Near East Parmesan couscous. It’s just enough flavor for you to get that yummy bite of cheese in there. If you’re a garlic lover, you will love the Roasted Garlic and Olive Oil. It’s not too much garlic, just enough for that incredible flavor.

As you can see by the looks of my dinner, I’m a lucky girl! My husband always takes the time to put together amazing meals like this and even preps the plate to look this beautiful. Your eyes eat first, so when my eyes see this plate – I just want to take a BIG BITE!
