DIY Hair Mask for Split Ends

If you’re looking to take care of your hair right now, many of us are doing at-home treatments. One thing that I’m doing right now are DIY hair masks, in particular DIY Hair Mask for Split Ends. My ends are horrific right now, so I’m trying my hardest to keep up with them and make sure they’re smooth. There are so many cool hair masks and I’m excited to share with you some of my at-home favorites.

DIY Hair Masks for Split Ends

I love being able to find things around my house that I can use on my hair. You might be surprised to find what I’m suggesting to use for some DIY Hair Mask for Split Ends treatments. The best is that most of us have these ingredients around the house and can use them in seconds!

Let me state this here, too. I’m not an expert at all in this arena. These are DIY Hair Mask for Split Ends treatments that I’ve used for years or that my mom, friends or other family members have shared with me. I love being able to share these with you, too! I know that some of them might sound silly, but I also know that they have worked of me or someone I know. Only try what you think might work on you!

The best part making your own hair masks at home is that you have all the control. Nothing I’m going to mention is dangerous for your hair, so don’t worry about that! This is meant to be fun and helpful and useful for you and your hair. We don’t have the ability to pop to a salon right now, so we have to do it on our own at the moment!

Maybe you’ll love one of these DIY Hair Masks for Split Ends ideas and will continue to use all the time. I love to pick a day to do them, which is usually Sunday (hence the day I’m writing this!) because it’s usually a lazy day at home with not much to do. I love being able to pamper myself when I can and Sundays usually seem to be that day!

#1 DIY Hair Mask for Split Ends

Ingredient: OLIVE OIL

I’ve been doing this since I was in college! My grandmother passed this idea to my mother and my mother passed it on to me. I’ll take regular olive oil and gently rub it on my ends before I head to bed. I don’t soak my hair with it, but I use enough where my split ends get a good coating.

Then I put it back in ponytail add a shower cap over my head and let it sit on my ends for 4-5 hours. After that I’ll take a shower and wash it out. You can even sleep in the shower cap, too if that’s easier for you! You’ll start to see a difference pretty quickly. You can do this once a week if you want!

#2 DIY Hair Mask for Split Ends

Ingredients: BUTTER

I first saw this done by a friend of mine when we were in high school! I couldn’t believe it, but she has the best hair ever! She would out BUTTER on her hair and leave it on and then wash it out. It’s a great way to add some moisture and smoothness to your split ends.

My advice on this one? Leave butter out at room temperature for 2-3 hours. You want it soft, but not melted. Take the butter in your hands than then rub it into your hair. You should then cover your head with a shower cap. Since we’re concentrating on split ends, really coat it here. Once the cap is on, let it sit for an hour and then wash your hair.

The best part? If you love butter, the smell will stay with you!

#3 DIY Hair Mask for Split Ends

Ingredients: Avocado and Honey

This is one that my mom shared with me, too. Take an avocado (make sure it’s nice and ripe!) and scoop all of the insides into a bowl. Then take about a tablespoon of honey and coat it over the avocado. Mix it up as best as you can to get a good mixture.

Take the mixture and coat it over the ends of your hair. Take a shower cap and let the mixture sit for about an hour. Then head to the shower and shampoo/condition it off! Just like that you’re done!

#4 DIY Hair Mask for Split Ends

Ingredients: MAYO

Mayo Hair treatment for damaged hair

OK, let me say this out of the gate… if you love mayo, this will be a good one for you. If you don’t, you might want to skip this one!

Take mayo and literally coat it over our hair. My advice since mayo is super cold right out of the fridge is to put it in a bowl and then leave it out for a 30 minutes. Let it warm up a little! Just work it in all over your head like you were coating it with shampoo or conditioner.

Take a shower cap and leave it in for 30-45 minutes. Just watch a show or do a chore around the house. When the time is up wash it out. It’s super easy to do for your hair.

#5 DIY Hair Mask for Split Ends

Ingredients: Banana and Honey

Honey and Banana

This is one I learned about when I first moved to NYC back in 2000. I had NO money to get my hair done and I just wanted it to be smooth and beautiful. My friend in my apartment building suggested a banana and honey mixture, which I could afford to do!

All you do is take 2 bananas that are on the ripe side and mash them up in a bowl. Then add about 2 tablespoons of honey and mix it up. You will know once the mixture is ready because everything will be well mixed.  Then just add it to your hair and pop on a shower cap. Let this sit for an hour and then wash it out.

I hope these DIY Hair Masks work for you at home. I think it’s wonderful to be able to share different things that we can do while we’re “stuck” at home and on a budget. I tried to list items that I know people should have or could easily get at home.
