10 Healthy Meal Prep Tips for Busy Families

I know I always say it and I’m pretty good throughout the month of January, but then I fall off the wagon come Valentine’s Day!

This year I’m determined to stay on course because I want to be healthy for my family. I’m someone who always is on the go go go and trying to keep up a fast pace, I know it’s not always doable – but if I’m going to stay on a fast pace – I need to be healthy. I need to have energy and be ready to roll. I have 5 kids to take care of and I know I can’t be down, I need to make sure I’m keeping the house running as best as I possibly can. Staying healthy for me isn’t just about working out, it’s about eating healthy. I need to eat healthy to be healthy. What I put inside my body is important and I’m set as can be to keep up with my food habits this year! I’ve got my husband on board!!

Meal prepping a HUGE thing for me to concentrate on this year. I really want to make sure I’m prepping my meals ahead of time so I’m not prone to grab yucky foods last minute. With a family of 7 – sometimes it’s just easier to grab a large pizza than it is to eat healthy. This mindset needs to change and shift this year, I’m really keen on making sure it does!! Truly – I have found the only thing that works is meal prepping. Sure, it can be a little daunting, but if you plan ahead it makes a world of difference. You need to be organized and stick with it. Knowing I have a healthy meal sitting right there in the fridge deters me from grabbing the crap I shouldn’t be eating. To make it extra easy for you as you get going, I’m going to share with you 10 healthy food prep tips that will set you up for success. My biggest piece of advice for you?

Block out an hour on a Sunday and you’ll be ready. Here are my 10 Healthy Meal Prep Tips for Busy Families:

1. Cut up veggies for snacks – have them ready to grab in the fridge
2. Wash all of your fruit – this is something that’s so easy to do as soon as you get home from the market
3. Bake 1lb of boneless chicken breast and cut into strips: you can use them for lunches or on top of salads – always have on hand!
4. Make half a dozen hardboiled eggs: quick breakfast, snack, or on top of salads – I will make a quick dozen 2 or 3 times a week
5. Bake a couple servings of fish – I actually need to share my easy fish recipe, I bake it in the oven with foil and it’s GOLDEN
6. Make a cup of quinoa – Easy to do
7. Make a cup of brown rice – Another easy thing to do
8. Steam or saute some green veggies – I never thought it was easy to steam down some greens, it’s insanely easy
9. Make up some servings of raw nuts – I love to have almonds on hand at home for quick bites
10. Put together a couple mason jar salads – you can just keep in the fridge and grab as you go. Add protein for extra yum

Hoping these 10 Healthy Meal Prep Tips for Busy Families will help you out!

Grab some containers and make up some lunches or dinners with your prepared foods. These simple tips will get you on your way. So before you grab that chocolate chip granola bar that you “think” is healthy, or get a sub for lunch because you’re pressed for time, be prepared with something better. It makes it so much easier to keep on track toward your goal. Throw a few things in your bag before you head to the office, or on your way to run errands all day. It’s truly essential to make sure you’re doing what you can to keep yourself healthy. Remember your kids are watching, too – you want to lead by example, which is very helpful and (truly) essential.
