DIY HOME PROJECT: PORCH PROJECT FOR THE WIN

Our DIY Home Project is in full effect. We’ve decided to take this PORCH PROJECT and go for it and turn it into a functionable space. I’ve been dying to do something with our porch since we first moved here. We’ve never had a screened in porch before, so I loved the idea of being able to bring a piece of the “outdoors” inside. Growing up we had a porch and we would eat breakfast and just hang out on it all the time. It was a fun family hangout spot and I wanted to give that to my family.

Unfortunately creating my “dream” porch just wasn’t in the cards over the last year since moving here. The beautiful porch I dreamed of transforming into the perfect spot became a storage space. All the boxes we didn’t know what to do with went in there. The Christmas boxes we didn’t bring up into the attic in January – went in there. It literally became our storage space because everything was out of the way and you couldn’t see it.

When the summer rolled around this year the porch started screaming my name. I didn’t want to be outside with all the bugs, I wanted to be sitting indoors, but outside. I literally looked at my husband last weekend and said, “It’s time! We’ve got to do something about this porch.” And so – rather not to procrastinate, we decided to just pony up and do it last weekend. We didn’t want anything to hold us back, so we went for it! We took charge of our DIY Home Project and went for it!

Here was the DIY Porch Project CHALLENGE:
1. We didn’t want to spend over $250 (even that was a stretch)
2. We wanted to use what we had here in the house to decorate
3. We didn’t want to hire anyone to do any work, we wanted to do it ourselves

In 3 days we transformed our porch from an area that was full of boxes to an area that we love being in! It’s become our haven! We absolutely love it and have been using the space like crazy. I don’t know how we lived here for a full year without utilizing this gorgeous open space! It’s so silly to me now! It didn’t take long at all for this DIY Porch Project.

When you’re looking to take on a DIY project in your home, you want to make sure you’re absolutely ready for it. Make sure you take the time to plan it out and decide how you’re going to go about getting the plans done. Set yourself a realistic budget and stay within it. Obviously things happen, but fluff that into your budget, too. You want to make sure you now exactly what you’re getting yourself into.

I hope you enjoyed our video because it was fun putting it together to showcase our progression and exactly what we did to get the space to where we wanted it to be. You can also follow us over on our YouTube Channel. We update over there all the time and keep everything fresh and new!
