Dunkin Donuts Iced Coffee Day is May 23rd, but it’s more than just Iced Coffee Day… it’s what will happen that day that really is phenomenal (and I’m not just talking about it being my 40th birthday!).
On Wednesday, May 23, Iced Coffee Day will continue to be Dunkin’ Donuts’ annual local initiative to support Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Rhode Island. That’s right — for every iced coffee sold at Dunkin’ Donuts locations in Rhode Island and Bristol County, Massachusetts, Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees in the area will donate $1 to the hospital.

This incredible annual event has helped raise over $2 million since its inception in 2010. I have participated every single year with my husband. Every time we heard it was going on, we made sure to support this special day!
This year, Dunkin’ Donuts has some extra support in helping them spread the word and awareness. To support Iced Coffee Day, they have partnered with a powerful local tradition call Good Night Lights.
If you aren’t aware of Good Night Lights, you’re going to love this.
Good Night Lights is a daily tradition in which local residents, businesses and law enforcement officials let the kids at Hasbro Children’s Hospital know we’re thinking of them. Every night, at exactly 8:30 p.m., Good Night Lights participants shine flashlights (and police cars, firetrucks and ambulances turn on their lights) toward the hospital from various locations in downtown Providence. In return, patients in the hospital flicker their room lights on and off and shine their own flashlights from their windows.
It is one of the most amazing things to witness and it’s a very well-known tradition.
So how are Iced Coffee Day and Good Night Lights coming together?
Iced Coffee Day is all about helping the brave kids and their families at Hasbro, and so is Good Night Lights. So, this year, anytime you buy an Iced Coffee at Dunkin’ Donuts (*please note, not all locations, but most) starting the first week of May, you will receive a small key chain flashlight that is marked with the date of Iced Coffee Day.
All day long on Iced Coffee Day, Dunkin’ Donuts will be hosting mini events at various store locations, hoping to drive out crowds to buy Iced Coffees. There will be local political figures, local celebrities, even a Patriot, at the stores working the windows and encouraging customers to take part in the great cause.
And… of course, everyone will be handing out flashlights all day long.
Dunkin’ will be concluding the Iced Coffee Day celebration on the evening of May 23rd with a “block party” at India Point Park, where everyone who has received a flashlight, and all our community members, are invited to head on over for a night of games, food and fun, all leading to a HUGE 8:30 p.m. flashlight flash to our friends at the hospital.
I’m getting goosebumps just writing this out on the blog. Literally tearing up about this!
Iced Coffee Day is a full day about the brave patients at Hasbro, and Dunkin’ Donuts, as well as everyone else – wants them to see just how many people truly care.
