How a Simple Manicure with my Daughter Made Me Cry

On July 8th, I took Victoria with me to get her very first manicure.

It was one of the pinch me type moments because there are still so many girl FIRSTS that I haven’t experienced yet with her. I have been dying, dying, dying to get my nails done with her for months and months, but I kept waiting until I thought she’d be the perfect age. I figured on the eve of her 4th birthday, it would be the perfect timing!

And so, off we went!

But first… let me share as to why this experience with Victoria really DID make me cry. It’s funny, this story has never left my mind and it’s something that really did have an impact on me.

A little over 10 years ago, I went to my nail place in town and got my nails done as a Mother’s Day treat from my husband. We had 4 little boys at the time – William was 4, Alex was 3, Ben was 2 and Henry was 1. I was getting my toes done with a mom walked in with her daughter, who was probably around 5 years old. The little girl was all dressed up for her 1st manicure with her mom. As a mom of 4 little boys, I just thought it was the cutest and sweetest thing in the world! The mom was telling people that she had 2 boys at home, but her youngest was her daughter and they had been waiting to do this for a long time together! They were just so adorable there, just the 2 of them. I remember thinking that I’d never have that with a little girl… I wasn’t sad about it, just matter of fact about it. I just remember watching them and thinking what a sweet, sweet moment that have together right now.

When I walked into the nail salon with Victoria on July 8th, that story hit me again like a ton of bricks, right to my heart… now it was my turn.

As you can see, we had the BEST time!

I loved watching her picking a color (she ended up with 3!), staying very still for the painting and then sitting there while they dried! She was a pro! She looked so grown up getting them done and (of course) I’ve created a monster, she wants to go back every day! LOL!

But truly… there are moments in life that you cherish because you never thought they would happen or you would experience them. For me – it was a simple manicure with a daughter. I never thought 10 years ago that it would be something I would be doing, so it really got me good.
