The Importance of Pressing the Pause Button

I pressed pause this past weekend and it felt good. It felt really, really good.

Moving our family into a new home was something I VOWED wouldn’t stress me out. I was wrong, it did and it has. I mean – how couldn’t it, right? Up rooting your family from everything they know into something brand spanking new isn’t easy. Packing up 12 years worth of stuff isn’t easy. Renovating and cleaning our old house to put it up for sale isn’t easy. There are all these pieces of this MASSIVE puzzle that need to come together and it’s just NOT always easy.

This past Friday I felt defeated. We have TONS of boxes unboxed and stuff put away in our new home, but there’s still tons left. My husband was away with our oldest sons at a swim meet in Boston, so I was home solo with the youngest 3 trying to make everything work and do what I could to get ahead.

Oh – and still trying to work full-time because that can’t stop either. Late nights and early mornings have been my saving grace, but at the same time… sleep has been needed now more than ever too.

It was time to PRESS PAUSE. I needed that PAUSE button pressed, smacked, hammered down.

And so I did.

As much as I know I needed to devote hours on Saturday and Sunday to unpacking and getting everything ready at our new home, I walked away. I couldn’t look at another box or plate or hanger to save my life! I just needed to get myself OUT and be with my kids and my family and my friends.

So I did JUST that. I took the kids to our pool club and played with them. I didn’t want to get in the water, but Victoria was determined to jump and she wanted me in with her. How could I say no?

1-2-3… JUMP!

And she did! And it was amazing to see and be part of with her!

And then on Sunday I drove up to Boston to surprise my oldest 2 sons at their New England Swim Championships! They weren’t expecting me to come, but I just needed to be there. I needed to see them swim at least ONE race! As you know from my blog – I NEVER miss swim meets – so missing this big one was a huge deal for me. I just couldn’t!

And I’m glad I didn’t because I saw this big guy snag 3rd place in New England in the 50 FREE! He did his fastest time ever! He was thrilled!

Pressing pause is healthy to do. Pressing pause is essential. Pressing pause is something that I really, truly needed to do this past weekend because I could feel myself getting more and more stressed and tired and defeated. Being with my family and friends fueled me. It lifted me up! It gave me extra energy! It gave me time to laugh and play and be silly.

It was a MUST NEED, MUST DO.

Don’t be afraid to PRESS PAUSE in your life. Maybe it’s for an hour. Maybe it’s for a weekend. Maybe it’s for a weekend.

It was a beautiful and refreshing and healthy thing to do.

I don’t blame you one bit for Pressing Pause! I think our brain and body needs it more often then we think. I use to be scared to press pause fearing I’ll be behind in work, or not getting chores done, but now I do it more often and it feels so good. It allows me to just take a deep breath and relax my body and mind. I feel refreshed and ready to accomplish more when I do Press Pause. Great post!

We moved last year and the stress of moving is HUGE. It took me a while before I realized I needed to pause and just rest. I totally emphasize and am glad you took a weekend to do that!

Sometimes you have to take a moment to pause and chill out. We have been doing way less this summer because our school year was so crazy!

Glad you found some moments to just take a break from it all and reconnect! I can tell when everything starts bugging me and I am getting overwhelmed.

Both my kids are swimmers, it takes a lot of dedication for both kids and adults. I have spent countless hours at swim practices and meets. We have our championships this weekend, which is a lot of time spent at the pool. Congrats to your son for doing so well!

Everyone needs to hit the pause button every now and then. I know I do! It helps us unwind and collect ourself so we are ready to get back to the everyday life & push forward.
