How To Get Started Selling on eBay

Have you ever thought about selling on eBay?

If not, I’m excited to share how to get started selling on eBay… but first, let me share my story!

15 years ago my husband suggested we start selling on eBay. We were living in NYC in an apartment we could barely afford (rent was $1400/month) and we were both working jobs that we liked, but weren’t making a ton of money. We knew we wanted to start a family, so we were trying to think of easy ways to make some extra money. eBay seemed like the perfect opportunity for us, so we dove in and started selling. Within 3 months we were able to pay for 1/2 of our rent with the extra income we were making and then in 6 months we were able to pay for our rent. We did this for awhile on eBay and had some great success at it and really enjoyed the process of hunting out products with some hot deals and reselling them.

How did we find items?

We went to outlets in the NYC area almost every single weekend and had a budgeted amount that we wanted to spend. Once we capped our budget (usually around $200) we would be done for the week. Little did we know what we were doing at that time was called sourcing product. We were just looking for awesome products at cheap prices to resell! Easy, peasy! I LOVED how much fun it was to do this with my husband. It was a common goal that we had – to make more money – and it was just FUN to do it with him. I love to shop, so for me… it was awesome!

We stopped eBay once we had our first son because – in all honesty – we couldn’t keep up. Our lives became focused around William and managing a new baby and then once William was 3 months old, I was pregnant again with another baby! Life sort of just took off from there!

Fast forward to present day. 5 kids. New house. Business owner. Hustle girl/mom/boss/wife. I love a good side hustle project so I started up eBay again once we decided to move and I saw how much stuff I had to sell in our old house! I couldn’t get over the items that I had to make money on on eBay, items in my own home! Just for the heck of it I popped up about 18 items in June and made $1000 in about 2-3 weeks of eBay auctions. It was a tough time because we were packing and moving, but I wanted to get these items out of the house, so it worked perfectly!

It got the ball rolling and I told my bestie and hustle partner in crime Vera about it – and just like that – we became eBay sellers! BOOM!

We are documenting the journey on our own YouTube channel, each of us sharing our journey – our questions – our tips – our advice – our thoughts and just about anything and everything! We love that this is an easy way for moms to make money right at home! Even if it’s $100 a month of $100,00 a month, it’s money you didn’t have before that you have now! It’s the BEST way to do it, right!?

  1. Open an eBay account! Just go for it! Name it whatever you want and have fun with it!
  2. Research and play around a bit so that you can see what kinds of things are selling and what the prices are for items you like.
  3. Search items that you would like to sell. Look around your house and find items that you could get rid of and sell. There’s no attachment and you feel they could be good.
  4. Try listing ONE item just to see how it goes for you.
  5. Join some FB groups online that are for eBay beginners! This will hel, too!
