I Didn’t Cry, I Can’t Believe It!

My oldest son William graduated from 6th grade last night. In our school, elementary goes from K-6th grade, so there’s always been a graduation/ceremony as the kids officially leave elementary school for middle school. I’ve been thinking about his graduation for a few weeks now, just completely positive that I would be a blubbering mess. William is my first baby, the one who has to blaze the trail for the McClelland kids. I know it’s not an “easy” position to be in, but it’s one that he’s done beautifully and effortlessly… it’s William’s normal, so for him – he doesn’t know any other way other than being the lead of our family. I’ve always just admired how he’s taken his role and run with it. So truly – when I kept thinking about 6th grade graduation sneaking up, the more and more my heart was aching and the tears would well to my eyes.

But I was wrong, I wasn’t a blubbering mess last night.

I was just a really, really proud mom of my son.

No tears, just smiles!

William loves school and works hard, he always has. He loves to read and write and do math equations and science projects. He devours history and loves to spend time on YouTube watching different videos on things that interest him. He’s just one of those kid’s that really, really loves school and wants to do well.  So it was a proud moment seeing him awarded a Gold President’s Award and the Top Student Achievement Award. It was GREAT seeing him recognized because as his mom, I know how important and special these awards are to HIM. He earned these and I couldn’t have been prouder to see him stand up and accept these.

New adventure await William next year in Barrington and I know it’s very bittersweet for him, but he had a wonderful time celebrating with friends and teachers last night!  Not to mention – we were all there beaming and feeling VERY happy and proud for him!

Love you, William!

You’ve got 2 parents who think the world of you and know you’ll be able to accomplish whatever it is in life that you desire! Now… onto MIDDLE SCHOOL! Let’s do this!
