The Catch ABC #TheCatch #TGIT

I started watching The Catch ABC last March when it premiered and immediately loved it. I’mall about shows like this and so I just fell in love with it immediately! Not to mention the cast is just about everything! I love Peter Krause so I was all about this in a nanosecond, too!

The Catch ABC

I am a HUGE Peter Krause fan, so anything that he’s in, I’m watching it. I was instantly drawn to the action, the mystery and the (yes) the budding romance. When I found out that we were going to be previewing the highly anticipated Season 2 premiere of “The Catch” while in LA for the Beauty and the Beast press event, I was THRILLED! I couldn’t wait to get a sneak peek and see what was going to happen! I didn’t have to wait (like everyone else!) till March 9th! Talk about a WIN for me!

PETER KRAUSE, MIREILLE ENOS

If you haven’t been watching “The Catch” – let me put it simply – YOU HAVE TO START! “The Catch” stars Mireille Enos as Alice Vaughan, Peter Krause as Benjamin Jones, Sonya Walger as Margot Bishop, John Simm as Rhys Griffiths, Jay Hayden as Danny Yoon, Rose Rollins as Valerie Anderson and Elvy Yost as Sophie Novak. T.R. Knight as Tommy Vaughan, Gina Torres as Justine Diaz, Lesley Nicol as Sybil Griffiths, Jackie Seiden as Gainda Mangels, Jake Green as Seth Hamilton, and Jacky Ido as Agent Jules Dao. It is such an incredibly smartly written show with a cast that is just a powerhouse. You really are drawn in immediately and get into the twists, the turns and the characters.

To give you a little background as to what The Catch ABC is about (just in case you haven’t tuned in yet), let me give you a quick summary. Alice Vaughan (Mireille Enos) is LA’s top private investigator — and the one woman you don’t want to mess with. But when her fiancé (Peter Krause) cons her out of millions and disappears, Alice goes on a private mission for payback. No matter where it leads or the secrets she must keep along the way, Alice will stop at nothing to catch her man. It really makes for a fantastic show and you never, ever know what is going to happen!

So where are we with the kick-off to Season 2 The Catch ABC?

The Catch ABC Featurette

Season 2 premiere is called “The New Deal” – and this is the episode that we were able to screen in LA. Essentially, at this point, con man Benjamin Jones has gone from committing the ultimate betrayal to performing the ultimate sacrifice, when he turned himself in to the FBI to save Alice from wrongful imprisonment. Now in jail, Ben is forced to reckon with his criminal past, while the team at Anderson Vaughan Investigations must come to terms with getting in bed with the bad guys. How will Alice and Ben game the system — and each other — to stay together and overcome their less-than-legal pasts? Oh, yes… it’s getting JUICY!!

Since I watch the show, I was really anxious to see the relationship with Alice and Ben at the top of the episode. As a fan, you’re rooting for them to work. You want them to get together and have everything be ironed out beautifully, but you know it’s not going to be that easy! I was also very excited to see what was up with Alice’s brother, Tommy. I LOVE T.R. Knight from Grey’s Anatomy, so to see him on the show was super cool for me! I love seeing him! There are so many questions that I had going into this episode and I wish could say they were answered, but in actuality… it’s too soon!!

I really love The Catch ABC for these 5 reasons:

1. It’s a show that really captures your attention. It sucks you in and really allows you to get wrapped up in the world of “The Catch.” It’s pure genius to have it part of Thursday night on ABC!

2. The cast is so rich and they are just perfect in their roles. I’m a BIG fan of Sonya Walger as Margot Bishop and her character is one I really am excited to see evolve!

3. Whenever you think you know where the story line is going, you’re wrong! This is the kind of show I love. I dislike predictability in a TV show and you just don’t have it here!

4. I’m just going to say it, the wardrobe on this show is TOP NOTCH! I want everything the ladies wear!

5. I must say, I love the romance on the show. There was a HUGE surprise for me at the end of Season 2’s premiere that I didn’t see coming, but I totally love it! I think it’s always fun when there’s the romance angle built into the show and they do such a fabulous job at making it fun and exciting for the fans!

After we previewed the premiere of The Catch ABC Season 2, we had the awesome opportunity to interview Sonya Walger (“Margot”) and Showrunner & Executive Producer Allan Heinberg. This was so much fun because they were both so open to any questions and really were so generous with their time and gave us some great inside scoop! Not to mention, Sonya is gorgeous!!

The Catch ABC

One thing we were all wondering about was where the title of the show, The Catch ABC, comes from? It could take on so many different meanings, so we thought we’d go right to the source and ask Allan.

Well, for me, before I came on-board, a version of the show already existed and it was, I think, a reference to Alice catching Ben. That was her drive. But for me it was about love… you can’t have it all, there’s always gonna be a catch. The guy you fall in love with who turns out to be your soulmate- it’s also the guy who stole all of your money and is a career criminal. So in love, it’s never the whole fantasy. There’s always something pulling you back down to Earth. I think a lot of us look at love as an escape from our daily lives. And “the catch” is what real love is, it’s less romantic and a lot harder to achieve.

It was awesome having Allan there to ask questions to because there are so many things that have crossed my mind throughout the show. Allan has worked on some of my favorite TV shows, so it was awesome to hear one of my friend’s ask him if he pulls inspiration from other popular TV shows.

Well, I had been on Scandal when I got this job, and Grey’s Anatomy before Scandal, so I’d been in Shondaland for about ten years, and I had a real sense of what I would wanna see if I were watching Thursday nights. I knew that murder is pretty dark for me, so I knew I wanted lighter, more fun, sexy, fashion forward. I worked on Sex in the City; I sort of miss that, I miss smart people talking smartly to each other, wearing amazing clothes, and talking about real love issues like how relationships really work.

I loved hearing Allan say this because I’m the same as he is, not a big murder fan watcher. I prefer lighter and fun. I prefer mystery and love and romance and twists/turns that aren’t scary. I love how Allan is really bringing a mixture of Sex and the City, Scandal and truly… pop culture in general to the table with The Catch ABC! It’s such a smart way to do TV.

As I mentioned above, the fashion on this show is INCREDIBLE. I’m not kidding, I want every single outfit. We had to ask Sonya about the wardrobe because her clothes in particular steal the scenes! Even she agrees, “Isn’t it killer?” I wanted to know more! The fashion really does become a secondary character for me, I just want subtitles as to where to buy everything post-show!

I tell you, it’s my favorite thing, going in for a wardrobe fitting, and that is not usually the case… When you go in with Peggy [stylist], and there’s just a rack of the most exquisite dresses. She’s wonderful, and has just the best eye, and I think this is the fun of doing season two of the show as she knows my body better than I do, so the dresses are not ones that I would pick. I’m the mother of two- I’m lucky to get dressed in the morning, so just to be zipped into a thing with heels, and the hair, and it’s glorious. It’s glorious. And it just means by the time I’ve been through the works, Margo’s there. It’s such an enormous part of being a character, having the right look and jewelry and hair and makeup and things- it’s, it really, really is.

We were all interested to know how Allan works with the cast. Does he love to ask for their input? Does he appreciate collaboration? It was interesting to hear both their takes on this topic!

I loved hearing Allan say, “It’s a very collaborative environment, and I’m constantly bouncing ideas off of them and seeing- and even in rehearsal, what’s working; what’s not working; call me; come to me; if you have a great idea, let’s do it.” What a fabulous way to work! We could tell that there was such a wonderful relationship and mutual admiration between Allan and Sonya while we chatted with them, and that was very nice to see. You could see that they like working together and that it’s a win-win for each of them.

ABC For The People Cast Interview

Sonya continued this topic, “But that is exceptional. That really, really is. I can count on no hands the number of show runners that are transparent, and accessible, and are like, ‘hey, do you have a thought? Do you have an idea? What is it? What are your feelings, most of the time.’ I can understand because the trains have to run on time, and you’ve gotta keep things moving, but most of the time you get the script, and that is it- you say it verbatim. So it’s a rare and great thing to work with somebody as collaborative as Allan which to answer your question again, is part of why the characters do evolve and change, is because there’s so much back and forth.

So what do we have to look forward to this season!!?? Regardless if you’re a new fan or an old one, Allan shared some interesting information about Season 2! “I knew we had to reinvent the show completely in this second season. I knew that part of what I think turned people off in the beginning, and this partly our fault, we only had one episode to show people by the time we aired, and so I think everybody thought we were doing The Fugitive where it was like, I don’t wanna her chase in thirteen episodes. That makes me tired. I don’t want that… So I knew, okay, season two, we’ve gotta spin everything around, and if we are lucky enough to get a season three, we’re gonna do it again. Like, it’s gonna be a completely- same characters you love, but new dynamics because I think what happens in TV.” I love how he’s thinking long-term and really wants to make sure – with each new season – it’s fresh and new for everyone. This is a big deal for me, too, because I love knowing that with every new season there’s going to be new twists and turns!

I’m telling you, you must tune in! A new episode “The Dining Hall” will be the next new one! In this episode, Alice discovers some very hard truths about her brother Tommy and Val is forced to dig into her past in order to help with his case. Meanwhile, relationships are tested as Margot and the AVI team have to navigate their current realities, and Ben and Rhys’ latest con may turn out to be a little too riskyon “The Catch,” airing THURSDAY, MARCH 23 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EST), on The ABC Television Network.

Don’t miss it!!
