How to Surprise your Kids

I’ve always loved having 4 sons. As many of you know, I had 4 sons in 3.8 years. That’s right, when my youngest was born, my William was 3, Alex was 2 and Ben had just turned 1. We had 4 cribs. We had 4 boys in diapers. We had 3 highchairs and one booster. It was madness in our house, but it was our kind of madness and I loved every single second of it. Throughout the years I’ve had people say to me, “How did you have 4 boys so close in age?” My patent answer? It was my version of normal, I didn’t know any other way, so to me – it was very normal to have a house always in motion.

As my sons have gotten older, it’s been really cool seeing them become friends, too. They love hanging out together and really do have a fun time with each other. I am loving the tween years because they’re like “little men” right now. I’ve definitely emerged from the toddler/young boy time with them. While we were at the Kalahari Resort in the Poconos this past weekend, I had the opportunity to hang out with my sons alone. My husband stayed back at the hotel room with Victoria, so it was just me and my guys! I haven’t had alone time like this with them in forever, so I embraced it!

It was hilarious to me, they “thought” I’d just wait at the bottom of each waterslide for them… you know, to take photos and videos. Oh, no my BOYS! Mama is joining on in! They were shocked! And I mean shocked in a really good way! So off to the waterpark we went, all 5 of us to conquer the slides! There was one “ride” in particular I was dying to try, but I wasn’t sure how it would go since I’ve never done anything like it before — FlowRider.

It’s a “surfing simulation. I was ready to try this sucker out with my sons, they were all on the bottom watching me – laughing when I COMPLETELY crashed and burned, but cheering me on!

My sons rocked it, too! I was super impressed with all of them!

Do something crazy with your kids. Do something to surprise them. Do something that makes them see you differently. I can’t tell you how happy my sons were when I said I was going to give it a try. The first word out of their mouths, “REALLY?”

Yes, REALLY.
