Why You Should Do a “Sibling Night”

I’m one of 4 kids.

There’s Keith, Adam, me and Jane.

Throughout our lives, we’ve always been tight. My brothers and my sister have always been my friends, too. Believe me – we fought (what siblings don’t?)… but we always, always, always had each others backs.

I have a special and unique relationship with each of my siblings. Honestly, the reason why I wanted a big family is because of these core people in my life. My sister Jane knows me better than anyone. We can laugh just looking at each other. She’s my sister, the other 1/2 of me on this earth! My brother Keith is my oldest brother. He’s one of the funniest people I know. He’s the quintessential older brother – protects, cares and watches out for you. My brother Adam is the sibling that I resemble the most. Adam was always the “crazier” brother growing up – just always hilarious. His laugh is absolutely contagious!

I’m a lucky girl to have these 3 in my life. I know people who don’t have any relationships with their siblings and that’s very sad to me. The good thing for all of us, we all married people that we like, too! Extra bonus, right? It makes family gatherings THAT much more easier!

About 10 years ago we started something called a Sibling Night. We wanted to make it a point (even though we were married/engaged/pregnant/had kids) to make sure we spent quality time with each other. The older we get, the harder it gets to hang out. There’s jobs and responsibilities, homes and kids… and just everything else that goes into being an adult. Sibling Night started as just a fun night for the kids and their spouses to go out and enjoy! We were regular at them 10 years ago – every couple of months we got together. And then… they stopped.

Life just happened.

Kids. Work. Life. Everything.

For the last 9 years (no joke) we’ve been trying to make a night work. We tried like crazy, but nothing worked. FINALLY 3 weeks ago, I texted everyone 3 dates and asked what one worked.

By the grace of God – we found a date that worked – September 17th!

We went to dinner at an awesome spot in Swansea, MA called The Aviary. It was delicious!

But the best part?

Just being with my siblings. The ones that know me the best and vice versa. These 3 are my anchors in life. And it was so much fun to sit and laugh and vent and talk and just talk. How many times do YOU get the opportunity to just TALK with your siblings?

It was MUCH NEEDED.

And – of course – we needed some photos of the guys! Everyone showed up in Vineyard Vines, too! It was hilarious!

And then the girls, with baby Eve! The most beautiful girl of the night!

Take the time to set-up a Sibling Night. It was refreshing and fun and loving!
