There’s something pretty cool about picking up a book that your friend wrote and feeling such a huge sense of awesomeness for her. That’s exactly how I felt when I picked up to read The Pie Life: A Guilt-Free Recipe For Success and Satisfaction by Samantha Ettus available on September 27th!
I’ve always believed that everything happens for a reason. It’s just the way I am. The day this book arrived, I was having a long, hard work day. Not to mention, trying to balance 5 kids, a husband and taking care of myself and the house! I definitely always have a lot of balls in the air and (yes) the guilt does creep in while trying to balance it all. I’m all about trying to make opportunities happen, so I had spent the WHOLE day working on a pitch to sell. I put my blood, sweat and tears into it and just felt excited and nervous and just about everything for it. When I sent it off to the company that afternoon, it was completely letting go! Out of my hands. Gone. I was pouring myself a glass of water when I saw that my husband had opened my mail and right on the counter was The Pie Life.
The first page I flipped open to?
Page 75. Chapter 5. You at Work. The quote that grabbed me on top made me smile, “I didn’t get there by wishing for it or hoping for it, but by working for it.” – Estee Lauder
I smiled. I smiled big. Then I dove into the chapter. It was everything that I needed to read in that moment (and then some!). One of the best parts of Chapter 5 for me was “Defining Your Nonnegotiables.” This is something I did a few years ago and it changed my life. What I appreciate and love about The Pie Life is that it REALLY IS a guilt free recipe for success and satisfaction. It’s incredible to know (as women) we’re not alone. There are thousands of other women rocking it and knocking it out of the park.. professionally and personally. It’s just knowing how to create that perfect recipe to make it work for you.
Throughout The Pie Life Sam offers tips and stories and advice and wonderful quotes/inspiration from women who have carved out fulfilling lives for themselves. Life is about living, and Sam shows you how you can have it all – on your terms! There are 3 parts to this book… Prep // Tools // Slices. It’s wonderfully structured to make it an easy and engaging read. Each chapter is filled with knowledge and ah-ha moments. You’ll want to read this book with a highlighter or a package of post-it notes to flag certain sections, it’s that kinda good!
I always get nervous reviewing books on my blog because I never want to give too much information away about them.
I will leave you with this… if you are a woman who is a professional, you want to read this book. It’s truly about bringing your whole life together. It’s making that PIE of your life and carving out the sections and slices that make it yours!
