If You Were Principal for the Day… #BICFightForYourWrite

With the first day of school quickly approaching, my four sons are starting to get more and more excited to hit the hallways. They can’t wait to see who their teachers are for the year. They can’t wait to see if any friends are in their classes. They can’t wait to take the bus again (big perk for my guys!). And they can’t wait to be together (all in the same school) this year because it’s the last time until high school. What can I say, they LOVE school!

I thought it would be fun to get my sons extra excited and inspired for the new school year with what BIC is doing right now. BIC is on a mission to celebrate handwriting and Fight For Your Write, something that I’m very passionate about with my sons. Digital is digital, but writing… writing is an important vehicle for communication because it distinguishes each person and promotes individuality. With 4 sons all just about one year apart from each other, I personally love this mission to the core. Writing is a critical learning tool for children, helping kids become better readers, boosting their confidence and sparking their creativity. BIC is showing kids just how great writing can be and how great they can be through an awesome contest right now!

BIC is asking kids, What would you do if you were principal for a day?

I posed this question to my 4 sons and they lit up like Christmas trees! Each of them excited to go off and write down their answer! I told them after they were done writing that we’d read them aloud to each other. Each one of my sons went somewhere different to write their principal goals for a day… and all I could hear was giddiness and laughter! I loved how this “assignment” peeked their interest immediately. Even for myself, I started thinking, “Hmmm… what would I do?”

I wasn’t sure what to expect from my sons. I knew that they would be funny, but I also knew that they’d be serious with it, too. When they each finished, I couldn’t help by smile from ear to ear when I read each of them.

Looks like recess is a real winning platform! 🙂 This is an awesome contest. But I must say, if I were principal for a day I think I’d go with the recess too!

If I were Principal for the day, I would integrate more arts and music into the curriculum. Studies show that children exposed to the arts fare better academically.

Recess all day would be fun I’m sure! If I were principal for a day I’d love to work harder to create programs that teach children about important topics such as depression.
