Potty Training Tips for Girls is new territory for us. Potty training in general? It’s something that our house has been through not once, not twice, not even three times, but four times!

Potty Training Tips for Girls

Having 4 sons, all 4 years apart – I was potty training one of them, every year, for 4 years straight! Potty training became easier and easier as I went along because I felt more comfortable and more confident that they would – indeed – finally just get it! By the time I was potty training my youngest son, Henry, it was a piece of cake! Potty training tips for girls is something I’m now passionate about because I love sharing any info that can be helpful.

Potty Training Tips for Girls

Fast forward 5 years, I’m back to potty training duty, but this time with a little girl!

Potty Training Tips for Girls

My Victoria is 2 years old and needs to be potty trained for preschool by the beginning of the summer. This is the first time potty training a little girl, so this is all new territory for me. Since potty training with my sons was most successful when I made it fun and not too heavy, I’m planning on taking the same approach with my daughter, too.

5 Potty Training Tips for Girls

  1. Pampers Easy Ups Training PantsPotty Training Tips for GirlsDay to night is always the most difficult for a child to get used to when they’ve begun the potty training journey. You need something that’s going to keep your baby covered throughout the night. Believe me, I know first-hand how important it is to make sure your baby is comfortable and dry throughout the night. My 4 sons (all within 3 ½ years) taught me well! Pampers Easy Ups Training Pants are (and always have been) my go-to. Pampers Easy Ups Training Pants are designed for when your little girl (and there’s an option for boys, too) is ready for potty training during the day, but still needs protection at night. The best part, they feature Pampers Leak Protection for fewer leaks and absorb quicker than the other leading training pant. It’s a true win-win. They come in easy toddler sizing that matches the size of your child’s clothes and feature fun Dora the Explorer designs. My daughter Victoria already has packages ready for her to rock and roll! Honestly this is probably my top tip for Potty Training Tips for Girls!
  2. Sticker Chart – One of the best things for a child is to see that they are doing well! Sticker charts worked remarkably well with my boys. Every time we had a successful potty in the “big boy” toilet, they would get a sticker. We told the boys that with every 10 stickers, they would get a prize. It truly gave them an incentive to want to do well!
  3. Potty Training Booksbooks in the bathroomThere are dozens and dozens and dozens of AWESOME Potty Training books for kids. We created a “Potty Training Library” for our boys when we started out. Every night we would grab a book and read it. This helped reiterate to them how important it is to be potty trained and what a big task it was to get it! You will quickly see that your child gravitates towards a certain book or books and will want to read them over and over! It really helped us out!
  4. Potty Timer – When we first started potty training, one of the BEST things we ever did was do a “Potty Timer.” I set a timer for every 60 minutes, in which I would make them sit on their potty and try to go. One of the most difficult things about starting out is to know exactly when you need to go potty. It always used to scare my sons that they would have an accident, so the repetition of going over and over again is something that really helped.
  5. Activities in the Bathroom – Potty training can’t be rushed, it’s something that takes time. When my boys were being potty trained, I would always keep a basket of things to keep them occupied – books, puzzles, figures for them to play with. The best thing was that it would keep them from getting discouraged or wanting to rush out of the bathroom.

Start early and make sure you’re working on it consistently. Before you know it, they’ll be “big girls” and “big boys!”
