We celebrated Henry’s 1st Communion this afternoon.
It was planes, trains and automobiles for me to get home last night from Orange County, CA… as you can imagine, it’s an extra, extra special day for our family.
Henry was cool as a cucumber all morning. My parents took my 3 older sons to a baseball game for Alex and Ben, Matt had a work event in the morning, so it was just me, Henry and Victoria at home getting ready. It was wonderful not rushing and just being able to concentrate solely on getting Henry ready for his special day. I spent a ton of money 4 years ago on William’s 1st Communion outfit – navy blazer, trousers, tie, dress shirt, loafers and leather belt. I had told my husband, “Don’t worry – the other kids will wear it, too.”
And guess what?
They all did. Henry was the last of the McClelland boys to get use out of the 1st Communion outfit today. It was bittersweet getting him ready. Made me tear up a bit!
Here’s the thing with Henry… over the last 3 years, his older brothers William, Alex and Ben have made their 1st Communions. William and Alex both accepted reading roles during the masses and Ben was a greeter. Henry didn’t know if he wanted to do anything, but he ended up volunteering to his favorite part during Matt, the Prayer of the Faithful. He practiced all week and truly, truly just nailed it. My little “big” man!

One thing, I couldn’t get over how grown up he looked all day.
Beautiful and very special day!
