What Are You MOST Proud Of About Yourself? Lean Cuisine’s #WeighThis

Lean Cuisine asked me a simple, yet difficult question recently.

“What do you wish people would ‘weigh’ you on besides your weight?”

I sat there looking at the question for a few minutes, not quite sure how to answer… if there was a true correct answer… or (in all honesty) if it was OK to say the first thing that popped into my head.

I went with the latter.

For me, all I could think about was how hard I work for my family. I’m the sole breadwinner in our family, so for me… work is something I love to do, but it’s also something I need to do. It’s not always easy trying to balance working (24/7!), raising 5 kids and maintaining a healthy marriage and (oh, yea… !) taking care of a home. There are days that can be crazy and overwhelming and stressful. Nobody sees the behind the scenes of hard work and drive and determination. Nobody weighs in on that, and for me, that’s the most important. It’s trying to just balance it all, seamlessly.

I’m going to be honest with you, I’m sitting here crying – still – as I write that answer out. Life’s a journey and it takes so many twists and turns and ups and downs… it’s not a straight and narrow road for anyone. I loved that Lean Cuisine asked me this question because it really hit home to me. It touched my heart.

This past summer, Lean Cuisine made a video called #WeighThis that just went viral. It’s one of those videos that leaves an impressions, makes an impact and is going to touch your heart and soul…

… incredible, right? It’s amazing seeing all the things that women do that have more value than their physical appearance. Lean Cuisine saw the true and utter impact this video had on women. I couldn’t and still can’t watch the video without crying. It’s real. It’s honest. It’s raw. It’s truth. Lean Cuisine decided to take the submissions they received from women, on all the things that
they are proud of, and celebrate by creating an installation in NYC’s Grand Central Station. On a 12-foot tall by 40-foot long wall covered in 244 scales and an adjacent 12-foot tall by 16-foot long wall with an introduction to the campaign and a TV screening with the #WeighThis film… these accomplishments from women all over were celebrated. The beauty for me was seeing artist Annica Lyndenberg sketching and
paint scales on a platform positioned just in front of the wall. And I loved the power of seeing the messages written on scales. They decided to use the scales because it sends a powerful message
about valuing the amazing things women do over the number on the scale… just genius and so powerful.

Lean Cuisine #WeighThis

I had the INCREDIBLE opportunity to be in NYC yesterday with Lean Cuisine and see this installation being created, celebrated and touching so many, many, many people yesterday. I also had the chance to be interviewed and talk about my personal “WeighThis” story, which was very emotional for me. I stood there, at times… unable to speak, with just tears streaming down my cheeks. I’m not used to actually talking about what I’m most proud of about myself, so this was new territory for me.

But when I saw my scale… that was when it really hit home for me. There it was. I could touch it. I could see it. It was so powerful to hang it right on the wall, right next to my best friend’s.

I can’t thank Lean Cuisine enough for involving me in this incredible day. I’m excited to see the video that I’ll be in coming out in the beginning of the new year. As I was standing there looking at the wall of scales, it really made me realize that we – as women – are all connected. We may look different. We may live in different places. We may be moms, aunts, grandmas, cousins, step-moms, best friends. We all do different things with our lives. BUT… we are all connected as women. We all have moments and things we are proud of and that make us, us. It was an honor to stand there and be part of this powerful and impactful campaign.
