New Updates for YouTube Kids!!

If you watch my daily YouTube videos, you know… Victoria is OBSESSED with YouTube Kids.

youTube Kids

I love YouTube Kids because it’s family-friendly content. It’s kid-safe. I don’t have to worry about Victoria (or any of my sons!) falling down a deep black hole in YouTube. All the content is approved and it’s entertaining for my girl and boy

It’s been a busy few months for YouTube Kids and I’m SO EXCITED to share with you some of the details!!

In February, YouTube Kids released their app, designed especially for kids, to bring to life the best family-friendly content on YouTube. Since then, families have downloaded YouTube Kids more than 8 million times, consistently ranked YouTube Kids in the top 5 kids apps in the App Store, given an overall 4+ rating on Android and watched Stampy cat explore the world of Minecraft more than 54 million times.

Not bad for a seven-month old, huh?????

When YouTube announced the app, they stated and expressed that the YouTube Kids was their first step in reimagining YouTube for families. This is what attracted me to YouTube Kids immediately. I loved that they were so focused on this goal. Since then… they’ve been looking for ways to make it even better – and well, they have!!! As you know I’m part of the YouTube Kids Parents Panel, so I am personally close to this and really feel honored to be sharing this information with you TODAY!!!

Today YouTube Kids announced some VERY exciting new features and ways that they are helping parents and kids enjoy the family content they love. I’m BEYOND excited to share with you information that Shimrit Ben-Yair, mother of two and YouTube Kids Group Product Manager released today!!!

Playlists from National Geographic Kids, Kid President, and a girl power-themed playlist from Academy Award®-winning actor Geena Davis are already live—and more are coming soon from YouTube creators including VSauce and Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls. If you remember, I curated a playlist for Back to School time!!!

Features just for parents

Learn how the app works: YouTube Kids wants to make it easier for you to get started using the app. When parents open YouTube Kids, they will explain upfront how their systems choose and recommend content and how to flag videos. They also prompt you to make a choice about how broadly you want your child to explore—turn search on to access millions of family-friendly videos, or turn search off to restrict your child’s experience to a more limited set. Either way, parents decide the right experience for their family from the get-go. This will roll out on the app in the coming weeks.

Customize your passcode: They also heard some parents prefer a personal passcode, rather than a spelled-out code, so they’ve added this option to access parental controls.

And one thing I love, too – if you ever find a video that you’re concerned about, please flag it. This helps make YouTube Kids better for everyone.
