5 Ways to Get More Followers on Pinterest #SoYouWannaBeABlogger

How to get more followers on Pinterest

Pinterest is my social media love of choice right now.

I absolutely LOVE Pinterest.

If you’re a blogger or a digital influencer, I’m telling you – you NEED to be on Pinterest. It’s a hot bed for meeting new bloggers and really having the chance to expand your audience in a whole new arena.

In January, I had 4,000 followers on Pinterest. I pinned here and there. I wasn’t really tuned into it. I kind of just pinned because I thought I should. The switch for my happened in February, many brands were attaching “pinning” requirements to campaigns I was doing and many brands were asking me my Pinterest numbers. It’s funny, the days of blog traffic are quickly being replaced with your numbers on other social media channels. The blog now has sort of just become the hub of your content, and the social media channels – twitter, pinterest, facebook, google+, youtube, etc… these have become as valuable as gold for brands.

Pinterest is my largest traffic driver, hands down.

As a blogger, once I started to see the return of being present on Pinterest, truly present, that was all I needed to see and know. I made it my mission since February to really work on Pinterest and try to gain new followers. I have gone from 4,000 to 69,000 followers in 5 months. I’ve been proud of myself because there’s been no buying followers (I don’t even know if you can do this) and there’s nobody else working it, but me, myself and I.

I’ve definitely noticed things that have worked and that haven’t worked for me in terms of gaining new followers. I’ve been so tuned in over the last 5 months, so I wanted to share some tips today. It’s been awhile since I’ve done one of my #SoYouWannaBeABlogger posts! I promise to keep them coming regularly!

5 Ways to Get More Followers on Pinterest:

1) Follow people.
Don’t laugh, but it’s true. I think this is the most basic one of all, but so many people get worried about following “too” many people. Obviously don’t follow people just because they follow you, but take the time to search your friends and see who is out there on Pinterest. It never ceases to amaze me when one of my friend’s joins, and I go see who they’re following, there’s tons of people I know and love that I wasn’t following yet. Really take the time to build your list. Pinterest is meant for sharing ideas and inspiration and photos, take some time to find people who inspire, teach and move you!

2) Repin other content.
Don’t just make it about you. I know this is pretty basic advice, but it is very true. When I first joined, I only pinned my own stuff. MAJOR WRONG MOVE. The beauty of Pinterest is in the sharing ability. You can share other people’s content by re-pinning. Re-pin away! It’s one of my favorite things to do when I’m just chilling out, I’ll grab my phone and just repin. I love seeing what people have out there. You’ll start to see that you gravitate towards different topics – I’m obsessed with fashion, hair, beauty, cupcakes and fitness! Repinning content can lead to new followers.

3) Take the time to build up your boards.
Look at the boards you have created. I have about 100 of them. I take the time to focus energy on each of them. There are a few of them that really are my shining stars because I have a true passion for the category – fashion, beauty, fitness, kid fashion, baby products. I love these topics, so I really love finding the best pins for each board. My advice, really hone in on your boards. Add the best content possible. Pretty pictures do really well on Pinterest. Look for the most gorgeous photos to repin for your boards. Beautiful boards can lead to more followers.

4) Shared boards.
My advice, if you can create some shared boards… do it! I started doing this last year and I LOVE it. This is a wonderful way to gain new access to new people and new pins. I have a few boards that I have that are shared and I really love being able to have them open because I’m seeing such great content and pins from people. Join them. Create them. Do what you can. These are Pinterest gold. Shared boards can lead to new followers.

5) Comments and Likes.
I try to do this every single day. I’m not going to lie, I get super excited when someone leaves a comment on a pin I popped up. I just did one of white shorts and I love seeing that people took the time to like (well, heart) and leave a comment about it. I have made sure I’ve gone back to follow and check out everyone who has left me a comment, too. It’s a great way to find new followers and get new followers.

I have never been a huge fan of Pinterest because of all the “You must only share pin-worthy stuff” talk plus it just never appealed to me much. I also don’t get a lot of traffic from it. Strangely though, I’m getting more into it. I even found this post on the site (and I will be re-pinning it)!

Definitely going to try a few things and see how it goes. I have fewer than 300 followers right now and would love to see it go up over the weekend.
