5 Things that Made Me Happy this Weekend

I’m naturally a positive person.

Always have been, always will be.

I distinctly remember being in 5th grade and having my teacher talk about “happy people.” I remember her saying, happy people are the people you want in your lifeboat.

Lifeboat? What did that mean?

She explained… that when things are going bad, there are just some people you naturally turn to in life. These are the people you want in your lifeboat. The ones that will make you laugh, make you smile, make you happy.

I wanted to be that kind of person.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become more and more in-tuned with the kind of people I want to be around and the kinds of experiences and situations that just make me HAPPY. Life is too short to dwell on the negative and the OMG-get-me-out-of-here experiences.

I sat on the couch last night and I said to my husband, “This was a great weekend.”

He laughed because it really was a CRAZY, BUSY, what-the-heck-another-swim-meet-and-baseball-game type weekend, but it was a REALLY GOOD ONE. It was a happy weekend. I laughed a ton. I smiled a ton. And I was happy a ton. It was the kind of weekend I want every weekend.

5 Things That Made Me Happy This Weekend…

1) Spending time with our dear friends the Sukkar Family. I feel like every Friday night we find ourselves at their house. They’re just great friends. I can go over without makeup, my hair in a bun and my jammies on… they’re THOSE kinds of friends. The best part is that our children are all best friends (William and Alex are in school with their boys) and that Matt is best buds with Louby. I just get to sit with my girlfriend Robyn and totally girl-hang. It’s relaxing. It’s fun. It’s exactly what your soul needs. Not to mention, we belly laugh about hundred times throughout the course of the night, always good for the soul, too! 🙂

2) This laugh. This laugh made me VERY happy this weekend.

3) Seeing this photo of my mother on Facebook. She completed her 2nd Ironman 70.3 this weekend and I couldn’t be prouder of her. I’ve seen firsthand the amount of time, effort and energy she has put into this race. She was worked her butt off and has just exceeded my love and respect on taking in this challenge. She literally did it all with a smile and I loved that. I am in awe of what my mom accomplished this weekend.

4) Watching these 4 cheer on their brother William and their friend Sean! It was adorable! They had just started their 200IM and it was cute seeing the 3 boys and Victoria all scream for them. Victoria just clapped her hands, but I know she was cheering them on. Perfect moment to catch!

5) Getting ice cream sundaes last night after the pool club closed. It’s funny, I remember as a child wanting to ask my parents something, but being so nervous that they would say no. I heard William say to Alex, “Ask mom and dad if we can get ice cream.” To which Alex said, “No, you ask her!” And it went back and forth! It was adorable. I knew the question was coming, so when it did… I took a long time to answer. Then I smiled and said, ABSOLUTELY!!! They were thrilled! It was the perfect way to end the weekend. Although, Henry did wake up with a huge chocolate mustache. He feel asleep on the way home and I just put him right to bed!
