OK, I’m going to totally age myself right now and sound like a crazy-teen, but I used to LOVE the Noxzema Girl ads in my Seventeen and YM magazines as a teen. Literally, Rebecca Gayheart was “the” girl. She was pretty. She was cute. She was the girl-next-door.
And yes, I wanted her super, smooth, no-pimples face. (And her hair.)
She embodied what it meant to take care of your skin when you were a teen. Noxzema just did an exceptional job with their message and creating awareness for clean, healthy skin with Rebecca back in the 1990’s.
It’s one of those things from my teenage years that I won’t forget.
Well… Noxzema is turning 100 years old! 100 YEARS OLD! That is crazy!

I didn’t know this, but Noxzema was developed by a pharmacist in 1914. The Noxzema name was coined after customers claiming that the cream had “knocked out their Eczema.” No Eczema = NOXZEMA. (While the Noxzema doesn’t position it as a treatment for skin ailments, it’s a cute fun fact.)
In the 1950’s, Noxzema started marketing the product as a skin cleanser and cold cream after a company secretary realized how beautiful it made her complexion look, and by the 80’s, Noxzema had become a household name in the U.S. Today, Noxzema remains a simple yet effective skincare line, with an average of 17 products sold every minute.
The iconic small blue jar has evolved since the 1900’s, but the Original Deep Cleansing Cream still contains the brand’s signature eucalyptus-menthol fragrance –a scent that makes it easy for women and men to recall that first time they twisted the top lid off and experienced the one-of-a-kind, Noxzema deep tingly clean.
