Fitness Diary: The toughest part is starting off…

My Fitness Diary.

Oh, man. This is always the toughest part for me – starting off.

It’s been a good year and a half since I’ve consistently worked out. In May of 2012 I ran a 1/2 marathon… I had trained for 5 months and was in the best shape of my life when I crossed that finish line. After that, I found out that June that I was pregnant… but sadly miscarried in August. When I miscarried, all I wanted to do was get pregnant again – working out was the last thing on my mind. I got the ecstatic news that I was pregnant (with my Victoria) on Halloween. It made my LIFE!

Here I am… now with a 6 month old baby and anxious to get myself healthy and fit – body, mind and soul. The thing is, after having Victoria, my 5th baby, everything didn’t bounce back like it did with the other guys. I’m older now (35 years old). My body has had multiple pregnancies. And I Just don’t have the time to workout as much as I used to be able to do. But… I’ve committed to myself to get my butt in shape. Eat healthy. Stay fit. Be an example for my family.

I’m not looking to win a marathon. I’m not looking to lose a ton of weight. I’m not looking to become a trainer. I just want to be healthy. I’ve done it before in my life, so I know I can do it again… I just need to commit to doing it.

I thought the best way for me to stay accountable is to be honest and real about it. I’m in a few different groups with all moms who had babies within the last 3-9 months. All of these groups are virtual, so we don’t get to see each other, but we get to listen to each other… which I think is very important. We were all there for each other during our pregnancies, and now we’re there for each other during the post-pregnancy stage… you know, because not everyone can bounce back like Rachel Zoe.

Yesterday I made this video to kick off the New Year 2014!

So here have been my workouts so far (which have been great getting myself slowly back into the workout mode):

Monday (12/30)
Walked 25 minutes – 1st 5 minutes at 3.7, the next 10 minutes at 3.9, the next 5 minutes at 4.0 and the last 5 minutes at a 3.5

Tuesday (12/31)
As far as pace, for the walking I ranged from 3.5 to 4.0 – for the running I ranged from 4.8 to 5.2.
Walked 5 minutes, ran 5 minutes
Walked 4 minutes, ran 4 minutes
Walked 3 minutes, ran 3 minutes
Walked 2 minutes, ran 2 minutes
Walked 1 minute, ran 1 minute

Wednesday (1/1) 2014!!!
Walked 5 minutes at 3.5, ran for 5 minutes at 5.0.
Walked 4 minutes at 3.5, ran for 4 minutes at 5.2
Walked 2 minutes cool down

I haven’t worked out yet today, I’m hoping to when the boys get home from school. I use my treadmill in the basement because it’s easier for me. Victoria is too young to bring to a gym daycare, so I need to be home with her. I’m also trying to be realistic for my lifestyle. I wish I knew I could get to the gym 3-4 times a week, but with work, I literally never know what’s up from day to day, so I can’t plan ahead for anything.

Here’s to kicking off 2014 on a fitness and healthy streak!

Who is with me? 🙂

I’m soooo with you. I think the thing I struggle with the most is actually getting my butt to the gym! I really like how you posted what you did, and at what treadmill speed. It seems most workouts give vague instructions like, 5 mins at a moderate pace. Wth is a moderate pace? I usually just hit the cardio level 1 button for 30 mins and just walk at the pace the machine does for me. Which is great, but doesn’t really work when I need to run too and am so clueless as to the speeds/times. Soooo I’d love it if you continued to post what you’re doing so I can follow along! (and totally copy your workouts, ha!) Keep up the great work, Audrey. You seriously look amazing and it’s hard to believe you have a baby.
