10 Things I Hope to Teach my Sons…………

As the mother of 4 boys, I hope to raise strong, funny, decent and kind men. It’s something that is very important to me. I want to raise the kind of men that a mother would be proud to have her child marry and stand next to someday. I’m a romantic… so yes, my brain travels that far ahead of me.

I’m not going to get into details, but recently I had a “discussion” with another mother (who has a son) about boys and how they interact.

Boys and girls are different from each other. They just are. They’re different in the way they deal with situations, other kids and problems. They let a lot roll off their backs. They don’t harbor stuff like I used to (and, I’ll admit it, still do) when I was a kid with my girlfriends.

All of my sons have different personalities. It never ceases to amaze me how different 4 boys can be when they all come from the same DNA pool.

Regardless of their personalities, I just want them to learn things from me. I want them to understand where I’m coming from with my views and opinions on certain subjects, but most of all… I just want them to be strong men – and I mean that in the best sense of the word.

I want to look at them 20 years from now and say… “Wow, we did a good job!”

10 Things I Hope to Teach my Sons:

1) Be the sunshine in someone’s life
2) Always try to find the humor in life
3) Every girl is someone’s daughter (and possibly sister)
4) Stay away from unhappy people, the same troublemakers will always cause trouble
5) Never be ashamed to be smart
6) Don’t talk about your accomplishments in life. I was a swimmer growing up and my father used to say, “Prove it in the pool.” Those words have always stuck with me
7) Your siblings are your anchor, they will always have your back – as your mom, I will make sure of it
8) Never label yourself as “shy” or “quiet” – no labels, ever
9) Love big and bold
10) Always, always, always (this is the most important) call you mother!

**And I will say, seeing them with their baby sister – if this is ANY indication as to how they will be as husbands, there’s 4 lucky ladies out there somewhere!!!!!**
