Fun November Fact: November 26th is National Cake Day!

November 26th is NATIONAL CAKE DAY…

Cake itself has a long and interesting history… including that the word cake derives from the Old Norse kaka, related to the word cook.  Originally, cakes were more bread-like and sweetened with honey, dried fruits and nuts and made to last many months. The round shape of cakes descends from this ancient bread, made by hand and rolled into balls that settled while baking into round shapes. Over the centuries, wood, tin, iron and stainless steel hoops have been designed in varying sizes of round to keep cakes… well, cakes!

Although kids may be very intrigued with the history of cake, they are probably more interested in eating cake.

Celebrate NATIONAL CAKE DAY by whipping up a favorite family cake recipe- or invent your own today with your kids/grandkids!

First you inspire me to run… now you’re making me chubby! (JK!!!) I love your history of cakes- I love a cake topped with fruit and less sugar… except every now and then, of course!
