I Could Have Slept All Day

I Could Have Slept All Day…

You know that song? You know, the one from My Fair Lady that Eliza sings about having had such an exciting evening that she could have danced all night?

I could have danced all night!
I could have danced all night!
And still have begged for more.
I could have spread my wings
And done a thousand things I’ve never done before.
I’ll never know What made it so exciting;
Why all at once My heart took flight. I only know when he
Began to dance with me I could have danced,
danced, danced all night!

Well, substitute I Could Have Slept All Day and that was me early this morning.  Like 5:00 am early.

My husband Barry and I had spent all day Saturday and all day Sunday at an 11-club Summer All Pool Meet, watching 6 of our 10 grandkids compete and our newborn granddaughter spectate…

It was wonderful. It was knots in stomach exciting to watch each of them do what he/she had prepared to do all summer long for this race, this moment.  It was exhilarating. It was adrenaline pumping. It was maybe this Grandma mind and body can sleep all day Monday!

Then, at 5:00 am this morning, I saw the first glimpse of the sun.  Well, maybe not a glimpse, but a hint of it…

I got out of bed to the discovery of all the things I’ve always loved about early morning.

My Roses of Sharon were already awake…

And in the stillness, I could hear the buzzing of a busy bee…

The sky was painted in those colors of magnificent indecision: Is it morning yet?

The lawn chairs were empty, but ready…

The white clover was asleep…

A ball left by my granddogs was itching to play…

New quince (my grandkids love the word quince!) peeked from behind its leaves…

A silent whirligig thought it was protecting my tomato plants…

Our flag waved a tiny wave…

Our newspaper (yes, we still get newspaper delivery!) waited…

Yep. I could have slept all day.

But I decided instead to get on with my training for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Providence Half Marathon and head off on a 40-minute cross-training bike ride that turned into a 90-minute bike ride on this cool, early morning August day – with my best friend & husband, Barry…

Chasing shadows, like kids!

I could have slept all day?

Nah. I’d rather spread my wings and do (and see) a thousand things.

Just as my kitchen window reminds me to do every, single day

Seize it and Dream it!

For some reason, this has me crying. I feel like I spent the day with you, and had the most beautiful morning. Even as I read this at 9pm.

Some days are hard around here (the only things ever whirring are the cars and sirens), but going into your days is always uplifting. Thank you. <3

P.S. Congrats to your record breaking grandsons!!!
