Trading technology for Ladder Toss with grandkids…
My husband Barry (soon-to-be 65) and I (60 and loving it) are all-in when it comes to technology; and, I most humbly admit, quite savvy with it all in our businesses and personal lives. And when it comes to our 9 (soon to be 10) grandkids… well, ask us any question about any Game App or other kid-tech stuff. We’d pass the test!
But put any of our grandkids in our yard and we are beamed back to another time; a time of piggy toes in grass, giggles, laughter and cheers, and staying outside past dark and getting up at the crack o’ dawn to continue where we left off the night before. It’s PLAY-time!
This past Saturday, Barry and I had 3 of our grandkids for a sleep-over; 3 siblings, Maddie (12), Jake (8) and Dylan (4). The age differences are significant when it comes to lots of things, but never when it comes to outside play. Our game of Ladder Toss, a stick of blue chalk, a couple of team names and the rest is play history!
Then there’s the break for bedtime.

My kids love to play outside. I made a Pennycan game (from Cougar Town) that I bring to the beach. My cousin and I play all the time. My kids play it outside with poker chips so they can find them in the grass. When I was a kid we played jarts, until they were outlawed.
We LOVE outdoor play in our family! Chalk drawings in the driveway, bubbles, swimming, picnics, walks, hikes, swimming, kites, swings, camping…anything to be outside in the great Rhody spring, sumer & fall weather! It is even more fun when either one of the grandmothers is there too! My Mom & Mother-in-law love playing with our kids & joining in on the fun! Wish their Grandfathers were here for it all, but they are both keeping an eye on the girls from their beautiful vantage point in heaven! 🙂

I LOVE THIS! I saw the picture on FB and looked at my clock- it was like 9am! Perfect. Summertime is for outside and I love that your grandkids get all the cool stuff- inside and out- from you and the Mr.!
You remind me so much of my Mom (she’s 60+ and workin’ it!) and how much she values family, love, and, best of all, LIVING life!
