My nieces and nephews (I have 9 of them, with another on the way!) are all super excited about the new Monsters University movie coming out. They loved the original Monsters Inc. movie and its characters, so they are psyched to see the new movie tell the tale of how Mike and Sulley first met in college. I’m excited to see it, too, so I thought I would have a some fun with two of my nephews, Ben and Henry, by making a Monster craft with them – Monsters University pennants!
I got the idea for the pennants from this post on Spoonful.com, which even included a pennant template to follow. So I downloaded and printed the template out, and prepared to have a fun Monsters University afternoon with Ben and Henry!
I had stopped at Walmart on the way to their house to pick up the craft supplies. The pennant template had suggested using felt for the flag, but I thought it would be easier for my nephews to trace and cut paper, so I purchased poster board and heavy construction paper to make the pennant instead.
While I was shopping, I couldn’t resist getting the boys some Monsters University toys…
… and picking up their favorite Juicy Juice apple juice. (Isn’t it an auntie’s job to spoil the kiddos a bit?) Check out this Monster drink!
The boys couldn’t wait to do the craft project, so we got started right away. Here’s how we made the Monsters University pennants:
1) I took the pennant template that I had printed and cut out the patterns that made up the different parts of the pennant, which included two flags (one large, one small), two letter M’s (one large, one small), an eye, and a pupil.
2) Next, we traced the cut-out patterns onto the poster board and construction paper. We used a lighter blue for the large flag pattern, a darker blue for the small flag pattern, white for the large M patter, lighter blue for the small M patter, white for the eye patter, and black for the pupil pattern.
3) Then, I had the boys cut out the patterns that we had traced.
4) Next, the boys glued their cut-out pieces together in order to create their pennants.
5) We finished by gluing wooden dowels to the pennants – and then our crafts were done! We had so much fun!
Afterwards I showed the boys how to enter the Juicy Juice Monster-Sized Sweepstakes. The code was found on the interior label of the 64 oz. Disney drink I had brought them, and I helped them enter it on the JuicyJuice.com website. They were excited about the chance to win a family trip to Pixar Studios and a $5,000 cash scholarship!
