I keep saying that 60 is the new 12!

60 is the new 12…

When anyone asks about turning the big 6-0,  I always say that to me, 60 is the new 12. It’s a time of life when your skin (albeit more loosely than ever before!) feels so comfortable, your angst is long gone, your body has finished all the stuff it has to finish… and your mind goes back a few decades to the wild abandon (or, OK, maybe just abandon) of a 12-year old.

It’s a time when you give yourself permission to do.  To be. It’s a time when you realize that no-one is looking.  No-one was ever looking… you just didn’t know it, yet.  It’s a time when you realize that time does stand still.  You just know it.

It’s a time to laugh out loud and maybe even use a few choice curse words that make your 12-year old granddaughter laugh out loud while gardening and spilling dirt and spraying each other with a hose, even if it’s not a nice, warm, sunny day and you’ve got all your clothing on…

Because the Red Geraniums are going to look beautiful anyway, eventually.  And the patio furniture and tents are going to be nice and scrubbed and clean, eventually.  And everything will be all ready for the great big family & friends 4th of July party…

It’s a time when taking time to make time stand still is a priority.

Like a time to forget the Red Geraniums and patio furniture and tents and sweeping to do headstands on the lawn…

Laughing so hard that it seems impossible to do…

Then saying to yourself, “Hey, my body may be 60.  But my mind is 12!”

And going for it…

Loose skin and all… feeling very, very comfortable in it!

Truth be told, I didn’t give a hoot if I couldn’t remember how to do a headstand.  I didn’t give a hoot if anyone was looking.

All I know is that time stands still in happy, happy, moments like these.

Just two 12-year olds having fun!

Yes, 60 is the new 12!
