Daily Diary: Learn to Play Golf (Lesson 2)

Daily Diary: Learn to Play Golf (Lesson 2)

I blogged yesterday how I started golf lessons 3 weeks ago with PGA of America instructor Susan Bond.

I’m telling you, I’m REALLY enjoying these golf lessons.

Golf is something I’ve always wanted to learn how to play. I must admit, I’m pretty good at mini-golf, but “real” golf is NOTHING like mini-golf! LOL… it’s a game of strategy and skill, a game that is not easy and you really need to have a professional take the time to teach you.

At my first lesson Susan taught me putting and chipping. Two skills that were fairly easy to learn, I say fairly because I was terrified I wouldn’t get anything! I was surprised as to how easy Susan made it to learn how to play golf. It was really eye-opening for me. Susan started with the basics and then said that we will work our way up to the full swing and playing on the actual course.

At my second lesson, I have to say… the weather was MUCH WARMER, so it made the lesson more enjoyable! There’s something about playing in warm weather that is refreshing and beautiful. I didn’t want to leave the course! When Susan said the lesson was over, I was actually disappointed! 🙂

The 2nd lesson was all about learning PITCHING.

Susan explained that pitching is like tossing a golf ball.

It took me a little time to get pitching down, I wasn’t holding my arms in the position they needed to be in and I was also trying to make the ball airborne with my own “power,” not with actually doing the correct pitching skill.

The first order of business was getting the proper hold on the club.

I really needed to keep be reminded of how to hold it, I kept messing it up! LOL… I finally was able to get it after Susan worked with me on it.

Here are the skills for learning how to do PITCHING:

Here was me trying to get the PITCHING down pat! 🙂

See my feet? That’s how they’re supposed to look after pitching!! 🙂 Love it!

This week I didn’t have a lesson because we weren’t able to get a date on the book when we were both available, but I spent a lot of time practicing on my own… which was fun to show my husband and my father!

I will update after Lesson 3!

Just want you to know I am taking lessons with my best friend and your explanations are so clear that I forwarded the blog posts on to her so that we can practice some of the things you are learning. For us it is a way to keep connected and walk, talk, laugh. We have been friends forever–literally we played in the playpen together and today we are over 50 with adult children. I am blessed to have her in my life and now to be learning a lifetime sport, we know we will continue to have fun in the sunset years (though those are way far away!)
    Thank you
