“Come on pretty Mama” – singing all the way to the othodontist!

Singing “Kokomo” all the way to the orthodontist’s office with Audrey & Jane…

Yep. Audrey & Jane made plenty of visits to our orthodontist!

Aruba, Jamaica ooo I wanna take ya
Bermuda, Bahama come on pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego baby why don’t we go…

Wait a minute, girls. Why aren’t Dad and I takin’ ya to Aruba, Jamaica, Bermuda, Bahama?

Because, pretty mama, we’re takin’ ya to the orthodontist instead.

Yep. There is a place off the Florida Keys.  It’s called Kokoma.  That’s where you wanna go to get away from it all.

But we’re heading to the guy, you know the one… the guy with the perpetual tan from vacationing in the Caribbean. You know that guy.

YOUR orthodontist!

Bodies in the sand
Tropical drink melting in your hand
We’ll be falling in love
To the rhythm of a steel drum band
Down in Kokomo…

You’ll be falling in love to the rhythm of chewing with steel teeth while Dr. P takes your place in Kokomo!

Oh, how all the Kokomo-singing memories came back to me yesterday when Audrey wrote on Facebook about her Alex needing orthodontic work:

My little Alex! Waiting to see an Oral Surgeon; he’s got 3 front teeth growing in, causing one to grow in completely sideways. I have to say, his teeth problems are all from me… waiting to see what needs to be done.

Yes, my grandson Alex just may have inherited his “teeth problems” from Audrey; her 8 (count ’em, 8) extractions.  Teeth growing in every which-way.  Lots of steel fixes. Lots of visits to that orthodontist.

And all the way to the orthodontist, each time we went, we’d sing Kokomo.  We really, truly did.

‘Cuz Dr. P. knew that place.

Martinique, that Monserrat mystique.  He caught a glimpse of Port Au Prince.

But ya know what, pretty mama?

Dr. P. did one heck of a nice job on your teeth.  And he was a nice guy.  A nice perpetually tanned guy.  From all those tropical vacations we paid for and sent him on.

Twice.

Because he made Janie a pretty mama, too!

SO. You’d better start teaching Alex the lyrics to Kokomo.  And create the funniest memories ever!

We are all orthodontic nightmares here, too. I wish Alex all the luck with his teeth! Addie will likely have almost a third of her baby and adult teeth pulled because of her mouth size… I will be calling on you ladies to give me advice!

I remember so many visits to that office. I’m sure my future kids will have messed up teeth because of me. Better start saving up now!
