Daily Diary: You Know You’re a Mom of Boys When…

As you know, I’m a mom of 4 boys – William is 8, Alex is 7, Ben is 5 and Henry is 4.

One of my good friend’s from high school is expecting her first baby boy in May. She has 2 girls, and is really (as she put it) “clueless” as to what to expect from a little boy. She called me this past week and started laughing about all the things she’s going to have to brush up on. She only knows Barbie, tutus and ballet.

I told her that she’d learn to be a mother of a son like a fish to water. It is the most beautiful little bond in the world, one that she will love. But yes… there are some differences between raising boys and girls. I laughed giving her some of my “fave” moments when you know you’re a mom of boys! These are things I never thought I’d know and/or share!

You Know You’re a Mom of Boys When…………

1) You look down at the toilet seat before you sit to make sure there’s no pee on it. πŸ™‚
2) That being said, you first make sure the seat is down before you sit.
3) You can’t walk into your living room without stepping on a LEGO piece.
4) Everything is turned into a weapon… yes, even toast.
5) You know there’s a “girl show” on Disney or Nick when you hear a collective, “UGH! Where’s the remote?” from the boy gallery.
6) Everything can be turned into a superhero cape.
7) You don’t think anything about a nerf dart flying across the kitchen. If anything, you begin to expect it.
8) You go through a gallon of milk and a loaf of bread a day (*Note, I do have 4 of them!).
9) You know Star Wars inside and out.
10) You know the name of every Skylanders creature.
11) You need to clean the bathrooms every single day (and behind the toilet).
12) At least one Halloween you have a Batman or a Superman.
13) Girls are “yucky.” (But never Mommy!)
14) You have a countdown to the new SUPERHERO movie coming out!
15) Fart noises don’t phase you.
16) Wrestling becomes a non-scary thing.
17) You are officially overruled on Football night when it comes to what you’re going to watch on TV.
18) You have about 25 pairs of athletic pants in your wash.
19) When there’s a moment of quiet in your house, you literally panic. Something must be wrong.
20) You know not to play certain songs in the car because they’re “girl” songs. πŸ™‚

I’m telling you, I have the most FUN in the world with my guys.

There’s not a day I don’t count my blessings.

With a little girl on the way, it should really amplify the differences… but I’ll tell you what, she’s going to be a tough broad! πŸ™‚

LOL! My boys are 9, 8, 4, due in May. With a girlie thrown in the exact middle at 6. I can attest to every single item on your list. And I LOVE it!

Here’s my ‘Boy Mom’ tip of the day – once they reach 5 yrs old they can be handed a spray bottle and paper towel and taught to wipe down the toilet/floor. It’s amazing the improvement in ‘aim’ once they have to clean up the mess!

And my ‘Outnumbered Girl’ tip – pink and purple LEGOS and pink superhero capes. πŸ˜‰

I’m the mom of only 1 boy and your list is so true in our household. I’d also add that the grosser something is, the they want to play with it – like mud, dirt, sand, anything squishy – and throw it at each other!
