Sweet Dreams for our Granddaughters!

Creating a guest bedroom for granddaughters…

Barry and I have 9 grandchildren, and one more on the way; 2 granddaughters, 7 grandsons in a row, and a baby granddaughter due in July.  We are blessed beyond our wildest imaginations and we thank God every day for our beautiful, joyful gifts of these little miracles.

Last spring, Barry and I sold our all-fixed-up-and-renovated historic home with a postage-stamp sized back yard and bought a fixer-upper with a B-I-G backyard and a harbor view.  We call it a “View with a Home”…

We’ve, well… been inching away at fixing up this little retirement cottage of ours while trying to create wonderful spaces for our grandkids’ sweet dreams.  We began with the boys’ room, filling it with beds and sleeping bags and the stuff of great adventures.

The girls are ‘tweens, one 12 and one almost 12, and their great adventure is to see Paris.  THIS gave us the idea for their sweet dreams bedroom.  This bedroom is at the top of the front staircase…

To the left of the grandkids’ bookcase…

All tucked away at the very front of our home, with lots of privacy… and it also happens to be the biggest bedroom by a lot!  (Barry and I have the tiniest bedroom in the world at the back of our home, next to the one bathroom and a view of that magnificent harbor!)

My shopping skills came into full effect here; total bed ensemble $59.99 at HomeGoods. The “painting” of the Eiffel Tower, $14.99 at Christmas Tree Shops.  All the white wicker furniture belonged to my late Mom-in-law, Flo… which is so very special to the girls.  Everything else, Barry and I have picked up here and there at flea markets, antique stores, auctions and the like for just-about-ever.

And the little details…

The girls’ favorite destination – New York City!  I picked up this pillow at HomeGoods, on sale, $9.00…

A “watchful eye” Lady, picked up an an auction decades ago…

Our little angels then…

Taylor…

Clock: always set for midnight, each day a new miracle!
Glorious morning sun!

A special place for Nana Flo’s knitting basket

With its door to our home and ears and arms and hearts… but just tucked enough away from the rest of the world!

Come July, there will be a little white family-heirloom bassinet moving into the girls’ room, too… a bassinet that Grandpa Barry slept in, their dads slept in, their aunties slept in, their brothers and cousins and THEY slept in!… and I can’t wait to go shopping with my granddaughters for Parisian baby gear for the sweet dreams in our special granddaughters’ room in our home.
