Marbles. It’s as simple as that.

Bringing back MARBLES to our grandkids…

Last weekend, I began unpacking boxes and boxes of books, photos and things for our freshly painted home office in our new old home; and everything I unwrapped from its safety of layers of newspapers brought back a memory, or two, or a million.

I dusted.  I placed. I arranged.  It began to look like this…

It’s funny what people save.  What we save.  What we find important.  What we find valuable.  What makes us happy.

It’s funny that Barry and I each saved our MARBLES from our childhoods.  Each of us remembers hours and hours of playground games, drawing circles in the sand and getting games underway; real games, made-up games, games for keeps and games all fair. Way back then, Barry was all the way across the country in Rhode Island while I was drawing circles in California.

Each of us remembers tossing Marbles on living room rugs on cold winter days and hot summer nights and getting games underway… and awhile back, I even wrote an entire post about Marbles.

This morning, as I was unpacking more stuff, I looked up and saw my placement of our Marbles on our shelves; right in front of the book Wisdom of the Millennium and right next to The Thinker bookend…

Ah, ha!  Is the universe hinting at something?

Oh, yeah.  I’ve gotta get those Marbles off the shelf and outta their jars and teach our 9 grandkids a thing, or two, or a million about Marbles.  Barry and I’ve gotta brush up on our Marble skills and join everyone from Egyptian Kings to American Presidents Marble enthusiasts – with our grandkids!

I’m thinking that the Wisdom of this Millennium is learning all the latest and most awesome technological stuff and games and genius from our grandkids… and we’ll teach them about getting on the ground and drawing circles.

Sound all fair?!

Sounds like so much fun, teaching the grandkids what we grew up playing. Makes me think of the many games of jacks, my sister and I use to play, while my brother was on the other side of the room playing with his marbles….sometimes his marbles would roll into our jacks game. Oh, those were the best days!!!
