Trust YOUR Power: Interview With Cowboys’ Linebacker DeMarcus Ware

Trust YOUR Power: Interview With Cowboys’ Linebacker DeMarcus Ware

Football is the sport that fuels my husband and sons during this time of year.

I’ve gotten more and more proficient at understanding the game of football and (which is really cool) knowing the players.  It’s something that’s kind of becoming addicting to me, especially on game day!  Football really has become a family activity and I love that!

Not too long ago you saw me on here and over on my Facebook and Twitter pages asking you to sign up for P&G Fan-cestry account.  You were able to make your own photo and sign up with the team that gets your FAN-METER going!  You also had the chance to win Super Bowl tickets (as did I), something that my husband would just go CRAZY over if I happened to win.

Well… I’m excited to share that I’m going to be working with P&G throughout the rest of the football season, in particular Duracell.  It’s funny, Duracell powers my home anyway (mom of 4 boys!), so it was a very logical and practical fit for me!  With this partnership, I get the opportunity to get some inside scoop from Duracell and hear about special partnerships they have going on with their NFL spokespeople. The stories and the power behind them are so popular.

The incredible message… TRUST YOUR POWER… is so inspirational. As a mom of 4 boys, it gives me goosebumps to see and hear these stories to help and encourage people. It’s a phenomenal message to spread.

To spread TRUST YOUR POWER message, Cowboys’Linebacker DeMarcus Ware offered advice and experience to Lancaster Football Team in Texas as they began their playoffs to rally community support.

After being ranked as high as #2 in the state during the season, DeMarcus Ware will prepare the Lancaster High School football team for a playoff run in which the weight of title expectations and past disappointments will be on their minds. Under second-year coach Chris Gilbert, the team hopes to create a program that makes it deep into the playoffs and establishes themselves as perennial winners. As a Linebacker for the NFL’s Cowboys, arguably the most storied franchise, DeMarcus knows what it means to enter a season with high expectations. That’s why DeMarcus will be attending school for the day to encourage students and team to trust the power within to achieve their goals. He will then spend time with the leaders of the team going into the community to rally attendance and support for the team’s playoff run, before finishing the day at Lancaster Football Team practice to help them mentally and physically prepare for the challenging road ahead.

I think it’s so incredible to see inspirational athletes like DeMarcus Ware reach out and spread the message to Trust Your Power… he’s touching lives and effecting futures for the better, that’s power.

Melissa Jacobs of the amazing blog, The Football Girl interviewed DeMarcus Ware after we worked with Lancaster and asked him some questions. Here are 3 questions I loved seeing her ask and loved reading his answer…

Melissa Jacobs: First off, what exactly are you doing today at Lancaster High School?

DeMarcus Ware: I’m at Lancaster High School campaigning with Duracell and “Trust Your Power,” encouraging kids to be positive on and off the field. We want to let them know that whatever they did it’s really important. It’s also a bit of a second chance where Duracell comes in here and gives them gear and advice to sort of help them get over the hump. It’s just a great opportunity

MJ: Why was this particular high school chosen?

DW: In the state of Texas there are so many huge high schools, and this right here is one of the low-end high schools. I’m looking at it now and it’s bigger than my high school but it’s one of the low end ones. They made the playoffs with not as much as others school have, which is in terms of equipment and being in a lower pedigree and still getting to the playoffs. I think they’re 9-1 this year and with them whipping through that adversity they’re a great candidate for this.

MJ: Duracell’s big branding motto for this NFL season is “trust your power.” What does that phrase mean to you?

DW: I use the fans as an example. If you can get your fans to come out there and cheer as hard as they can and cheer you on you feel like you have that 12th man out there who can intimidate the other team. But also just having confidence in you, confidence in one person who can make an impact. For the way you live and how you are with the opportunities you have. You have to strive and do your best with what you’ve got.

To further spread TRUST YOUR POWER message, Duracell has also partnered with, All-Pro Linebacker Patrick Willis, who shared his inspiring journey to encourage fans to trust the power within to achieve their dreams.

Just fantastic.

Fans can tweet with the #TrustYourPower hashtag and Duracell will make a $1 commitment (up to $200,000) to provide disadvantaged youth scholarships to ProCamps.
