The Breakfast Project: What my MOM taught me about MILK (and what I’m teaching my kids)

Milk.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… we go through 6 (yes, 6!) gallons of MILK a week.

My sons, all 4 of them, love love love MILK.

Ever since they were babies, milk has been a drink I’ve given to them because my mother gave it to me when I was a child. For me, it was a full circle moment in my life as a mother… passing along the milk tradition!

I had the opportunity to partner with Got Milk? on their wonderful project called The Breakfast Project with 2 ladies in my life who mean so much to me – my mother and my sister.

For The Breakfast Project, we got together and dished about MILK… just a mom and her 2 daughters! 🙂

I LOVED shooting this with my mom and sister because it was really cool to see – together – just how much my mother has impacted my life with milk. She was and is a milk drinker, so it was cool to see the factoid that – Moms who drink milk are more likely to have kids who drink milk.

That is me, completely. My mom was a milk drinker, as was I… and now my OWN kids are, too!

As a mom of 4 little boys and seeing my own mother do this for me and my siblings, I know that serving milk at breakfast is a simple thing that I can do to send my kids out the door with what they need to start the day. They have growing bones and muscles, I need to make sure I’m doing what I can at home to help keep their bodies growing big and strong!

For me in particular, breakfast is the perfect time to model healthy habits for my whole family, including drinking milk because it’s the ONE time during the day where all the boys are quiet (oh, yes!) and they are all in one place without running off to do something. Breakfast is the start of our day, and I love having them all sit together in our kitchen and get themselves geared up and ready for the day. I can’t be with them all day long, but I can control what they’re drinking and eating at the breakfast table! 🙂
