It’s My Birthday Month!

Happy November! I hope you had a great Halloween. It was our first Halloween in our new home, so we weren’t sure what to expect as far as trick-or-treaters. We ended up having a steady stream for about a half hour, and then just a few stragglers after that. We have some candy left over today, but I actually am not a fan of most candy, and Brian’s not a huge candy eater either, so we will probably end up giving it away.

We didn’t go all-out on costumes for the dogs this year. Brian just put neckties on all three of them and they looked like doggy professors! They looked so cute. I can’t stand it!

Jethro, Ryder and Tansy – Halloween 2012

Now that Halloween is over, it’s time for me to get excited about my birthday, which is in a few days – November 4! I used to hate having a fall birthday because I was never able to have an outdoor birthday party like Audrey could (her birthday is in May). I had to have my party indoors and by the time everyone left is was dark out. (I know, boo hoo… the things you think are a big deal when you’re a kid!).

Now I love that my birthday is in the fall. I appreciate the beautiful colors on the trees and the crisp weather… and you know, although I do love the long days of summer, there’s something to be said for cozying up on the couch and staying in for the night as it gets darker earlier and earlier.

Brian and my parents have asked me what I want for my birthday, but I really don’t need anything. I have my family, my dogs and a home, and that’s really all I need to make me happy. As I get older (I will be 32 on the 4th), I really appreciate the simple things in life so much more. The only things I will always request is an ice cream cake from Carvel. That, along with my parents giving me a big bunch of balloons, has been a birthday tradition for as long as I can remember. I’m looking forward to these things already!

What kinds of birthday traditions do you have?

Happy Almost Birthday!!! November is my birthday month too…November 30th!! I had the exact same feeling as you growing up. My brother has a June birthday, so it was always a pool party. My Mom always tried to make my birthday parties just as fun…including a pool party at the local YMCA! So I had my pool party after all! 😉

Haha, I love the picture of your dogs….so cute! I have a September birthday, which I hated because it was right at the start of the school year…I never knew which friends to invite. The kids that I was close with from the year before or the kids in my class currently? It was quite a conundrum as a kid 😉

Happy {almost} birthday!! My favorite birthday tradition is my Carvel Cake every year – its the only thing I ask for (especially now that I have kids and would rather gifts be for them!!)

Yeah, my birthday is on November 2nd. I kind of like that I can celebrate my birthday two days after Halloween. However, if I was born on or a few days before Christmas, then I would not celebrate my birthday at all. I am not that crazy about Christmas.
