Daily Diary: 6 Things I Love about NYC

I’m in NYC once a week for work.

Truthfully, I should either just move my family there full-time or (at least) get myself a studio apartment to crash in every week.

There’s just something about the City that I love and that I crave (besides that fact that my work takes me there so much). Usually I’ll take the train into the City from Providence… and there’s one stretch of the train where you just see the breath-taking City skyline. It gives me goosebumps every single time. It just never loses its magic for me… it’s “the” place I love to be and want to be.

I arrived into the City early yesterday and decided to spend the afternoon walking around. I never, ever just give myself time to BE. I’m always dashing here or dashing there, and I just really felt like doing nothing but walk. I wanted to walk around and take in the City sights, lights and do a little shopping!

There are just things about the City that I love…

Magnolia Bakery Cupcakes. People either love them or hate them. I LOVE them. I LOVE them so much I get 6 of them and devour 2 and then bring the rest home with me because there’s no place in Rhode Island like them. I’m quite literally addicted, and to me… they’re NYC.

Fall in Central Park. I’m a New England girl, so I’ve grown up and have been used to the beauty of the leaves changing every Fall season. It’s simply gorgeous. But I have to admit, Fall in Central Park is breath-taking. It’s one of those times that you really just fall in love with nature and the beauty of the changing season.

Dry Bar. The best blowout invention since the hair dryer! 😉 I’m kidding… but really, this place is incredible! Blowouts for $35… and they’re done (especially with my hair) in 45 minutes!

Columbus Circle. Our last apartment in NYC was in Columbus Circle and I just loved it. We would walk around that area all the time. And I will say, my water started to break with my Alexander when I was walking through Columbus Circle on September 27th, 2005…

Walking around NYC at night. My mother would DIE if she saw this as one of my favorite things, but it is. I’m obsessed with walking around NYC when the sun has gone down. Of course, I’m safe when I do it… but it’s just so electric! The energy that NYC gives off at night is amazing. Even on a quiet city street uptown, you can still feel the energy! It’s something I really love.

Cute little hole-in-the-wall Coffee Shops. They’re just soothing to me and so relaxing. I always feel comfortable and “home” like when I’m in one. Best place to plop down to work or read a book!

I always like to hear what NYC “natives” like to do in the city. (We love it too, and never tire of visiting.)

It’s a small world- I was actually in NYC on Oct 9th as well.
