Teaching my Sons a Family Recipe – My Nana’s Cinnamon Twist Cookies

Nana’s Cinnamon Twist cookies.

They are – hands down – the most special cookies in the world to me.

When my Nana passed away 4 years ago, a part of me went with her. She was one of the most special people in the world to me. From the very beginning, my Nana and I had a bond. I used to LOVE going to her house as a little girl. She would play dolls with me . She would play in the backyard with me. She would sew with me. She would take me bowling. She would let me help her pick out her outfits. And she would let me bake with her. Baking was one of the best things in the world to do with my Nana because it was her passion. Nobody loved to bake like my Nana did.

Her specialty was her Cinnamon Twist cookies. They were a simple cookie, but such a delicious cookie. Every time we would go to her house, that yellow cookie jar was filled to the brim with them. It was the best feeling in the world grabbing 2 of them with a glass of milk. To this day, I still get a smile from ear-to-ear when I think about sitting at her table with my plate of cookies and glass of milk.

Sadly, my sons don’t remember my Nana. She passed away when William was 3 years old. All 4 of them met my Nana (even my little Henry, he was only 2 months old when she passed away), but none of them knew her like I did. That makes me sad because she was such a force in my life.

Baking is something my Nana loved to do with me, and so… my P&G everyday resolution today is making Nana’s Cinnamon Twist cookies with my sons for them. It’s emotional for me because it’s bringing pieces of my Nana into their life, but it’s also doing something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time — BAKE with my guys.

I want to start this tradition with them, the baking of Nana’s cookies.

I’m committing to this resolution today, forever. I want my sons to teach their children the special Cinnamon Twist cookie recipe from my Nana. I want to keep it alive in my family.

It’s truly amazing how a simple resolution such as making cookies with my sons will leave such a lasting impression on them and inspire me to keep this going. I’m so excited and so happy that I took the time to commit to this resolution because it’s so very special to us.
