P&G Everyday Resolution: I Resolve to Take a SHOWER!

Take a shower that lasts longer than 5 minutes.

This is my P&G everyday resolution.

Moms… you know what I mean, right? 🙂

I often joke and say one way you know you’re a mom is by how your showering habits have changed. Gone are the days of relaxing in the shower. Gone are the days of staying in until the hot water runs out. Gone are the days of even thinking about taking a bath.

My “normal” shower routine goes a little something like this, 4 little voices from the door asking:

(Ben) “Mom? You almost done?”

(Alex) “Mom? Where’s my baseball shirt?”

(William) “Can I get milk all by myself?”

(Henry) “Have you seen blankie?”

(Husband) “Honey? How long do you think you’re going to be?”

Or my favorite… (all of them) “Sorry for flushing the toilet downstairs Mom! Did the water get cold?”

Yup. That’s about right. This is how I shower.

It’s almost like a magnetic force, when I go into the shower, the questions and “sudden need” for me is ultra-important. It’s one of those things that has just become part of me being a mom, and I’m not complaining about it, I love it… I do, but it would be nice to have a nice, long shower once in a while where I could use deep conditioner in my hair and (gasp) shave my legs without rushing. Mom time. Just a little bit of mom alone time.

So… drum roll, please – today I’m making the resolution to make sure this happens.

I kind of feel guilty wanting to take a long shower and pamper myself with my favorite Pantene® shampoo and deep conditioner and Olay® body washes. Not to mention, really wanting to shave my legs without stopping every 30 seconds to field a question from the boys. I just got the brand new Venus & Olay™ razor and I’m in love with it! We’re always at the pool in the summer and I constantly need to make sure my legs are hair-free. When I tried the Venus & Olay™ razor for the first time a few weeks ago, I was in love! It left my legs so soft and smooth and moisturized!

All I want is 2 days a week to be able to truly give myself the gift of 20 minutes in the shower without any interruptions. It may just be 20 minutes, but it’s 20 minutes of recharging my batteries and really allowing myself quiet time. The shower used to be the place where most of my ideas for work were generated from because I was completely relaxed and truly just alone with my thoughts. I haven’t had that in a very LONG time. With a house full of boys (husband included) the only “alone time” I get is when I’m in the shower, so it’s important for me to embrace this time. It’s important for me to really carve out more than just 5 minutes.

I’m making this one of my everyday resolutions and making sure I fit this in. I’ve even asked my husband to help facilitate this. He knows how important this is to me and how this small amount of time is really a gift.

It’s a small change, but I’m making it today.
