P&G Everyday Resolution for my sons

My P&G everyday resolution today is to set-up playdates for each of my sons throughout the summer. I’m calling moms today and I’m getting dates on the calendar.

It’s easier said than done, believe me (which is why it’s a resolution).

Working full-time (and around the clock), it’s tough to set-up those much wanted playdates that my sons are always begging for me to do. It’s tough because my sons aren’t old enough yet to just be dropped off at someone’s house. A playdate consists of an afternoon with me (or my husband) spending 2-3 hours at someone else’s house or having someone else at our house with their kids (which means cleaning the house).

It’s not that I don’t want to do it, it’s just that it’s not always easy to fit it into our schedules.

Two weeks ago, I had a mother at Ben and Henry’s preschool call me up to see about setting up a playdate between all of our boys. She was so sweet and so willing to work around our schedule. We agreed on a date, time and place… and then, I can’t believe I’m admitting this, I completely forgot. I felt awful because her son was so upset that we didn’t show up… and truthfully, my eyes fill up with tears when I think about it because my guys were so excited, too. When I told them we missed it, they were crushed. A work event popped up and I thought I had told my husband about the change in plans, but something got lost in translation. It was a mom fail moment… completely.

Work is important to me, but my sons’ happiness has to come first.

So I’m committing to setting up summer playdates with their friends and STICKING with them.

I know it seems a little silly to make this a resolution, but playdates are sacred in the minds of young kids, especially mine and I want to commit to doing this throughout the summer. It’s their special time to get together with their best buds outside of school and have fun, let loose and be KIDS. Thinking back to when I was their age, I used to get so excited when my mother set-up a special playdate for me and my friends. It was just fun to be together at my house playing dolls or having a lemonade stand or riding bikes up and down the street. It didn’t take much to make us happy, and I see that in my sons. They just want friends over… plain and simple.

Each week throughout July and August I’m setting up a special playdate for the boys.

Week 1: William
Week 2: Alexander
Week 3: Benjamin
Week 4: Henry

That’s once a month for each of them, and the best part is… since they’re friends with all of each other’s friends, in reality, they’ll have a playdate once a week (all of them!).
