Daily Diary: Show your LOVE to your children

My parents have always been head over heels for each other. I remember being a little girl and thinking it was so cute that they held hands in the car. I actually remember thinking, “I hope my husband does that someday.” As I got older and was in high school, I even thought it was cute that my mother still rushed upstairs to brush her hair and put some lipstick on before my dad came home from work. She always wanted to look beautiful for him. And now… as an adult woman and a mom of my own, I still love seeing that my mom and dad just are crazy in love for each other. It’s beautiful.

There was always something I took from watching that… I knew I would never, ever settle when it came to love. I knew I wanted to be crazy in love with someone and have him feel the same way about me.

My parents taught me that. Everyone deserves a happily-ever-after.

I’ve never really thought about what my sons think of Matt and I “in love” before. I’m going to be honest, since they’re boys… I kind of thought they wouldn’t really care as much. I always thought my parents were cute, I wasn’t sure boys would think they’re parents were “cute in love”, especially at their ages (they’re 4, 5, 6 and 7).

I was wrong. And I’m thankful for that.

While we were in Cape Cod this past weekend, I wrote this in the sand for my husband…

My sons thought it was the cutest thing ever! I couldn’t believe it! My oldest son William said to his brothers, “Aww… loo what mom just wrote!” And they all ran over.

I loved that… and it got me thinking, I need to make sure my sons see things like this. I want my sons to see declarations of love between me and Matt because I want them to be the SAME way someday with the women they marry and raise a family with.

You can never start to early!

And I want them to see our happily-ever-after and always know and believe it’s possible.
