Chatting with Wendy Bellissimo

Wendy Bellissimo is best known for her work designing nurseries for stars like Brooke Shields, Kelly Ripa, James Denton, Cedric the Entertainer and more.
In May 2010, at the height of her career, Wendy shut down all operations because her then 8 year old daughter Cecilia was diagnosed with a rare form of soft tissue cancer. Wendy had taken her daughter to countless doctors who could find nothing wrong with her. It was Mothers Day 2010 when Wendy demanded an MRI and the diagnosis came. Had it not been for her persistance and intuition Cecilia would have left another hospital undiagnosed.
Thankfully- two years later and Cecilia is in remission doing great! Wendy, excited to get back to work has teamed up with Gilt Baby&Kids to launcher her new collection.
The first sale was June 20th on Gilt.com and will feature adorable baby & kids apparel. Wendy is anxious to get back to work but also to share her family’s story in hopes that it will remind parents to ask every question and seek every option when it comes to their children’s health.
I had the pleasure to chat with Wendy and really get some great insight, advice and tips from her…
1)Wendy, what are you seeing as the latest trends in nurseries right now, specifically in boys. I have 4 sons and would love to see what you’re really loving right now…..
For boy I am loving combining a soft blue with flax linen, pure white  and then a darker blue/gray and light charcoals to add contrast.  It is heavenly yet still gives the weight we want for boy designs!  My new “walk with me” collection incorporates this palette.
2) What’s your best advice for new moms out there wanting to create a “perfect” nursery….
Really do your research ahead of time to hone in on what you really love – then plan around that.   Create your own little design inspiration board!
3) Is it possible to have a celeb-like nursery on a budget?……
Yes!  This is my specialty.  Since I work with so many celebs  I love to show people how they can “get the look.”  You have to have a good eye and know the right pieces to select and where to get the most bang for your buck.  (that’s why its great to start an inspiration board)  The fabrics drive the room and create the overall feel so invest in that.

4) Why do you LOVE what you do? You’re so talented… love to hear your thoughts!….I
t is thrilling for me to make people happy.  Whether I am designing an entire home a fashion bag or a piece of clothing design comes naturally for me and  is on my brain at all times. When I see how excited people get with my work I feel so fulfilled because everyone wants to feel good and comfortable with the environment they live in or with what they wear and  to be able to be a part of creating that intimacy and happiness for them is a really great feeling.
