I’m addicted to scarves. I will wear one with every chance I can get. Believe me, I will. There’s just something about them that I love. So, yesterday… when I was having a fashion-conversation with a good friend from childhood… summer scarves came up. 🙂

Her dilemma?

She needs something to wear to a work function, but doesn’t want to be too dressed up, or too dressed down. I recommended white capris, white top, espadrilles and a scarf to top it off.

She (literally) said, “A scarf? In May? Won’t I look ridiculous?”

Um…. no.

I know my friend well enough to know that I need to give her reasons, not just “random” fashion advice. As I was talking her through the scarf idea, I thought to myself… I have to blog about this one!

So without further adieu, here are my 5 solid reasons why you need a summer scarf:

1. They (literally) go with anything. You could wear a sundress dress, shorts, capris, tanks, tees, blouses, maxi dresses… you name it, they’ll work. There’s not many items you can say that about.

2. You need to make sure the scarf is made up of a lightweight material. Go with linen, light cotton, silk or a gauze-like fabric. You don’t want anything to be too heavy or too hot on your neck in the summer.

3. It’s much chicer than a necklace in the summer. Not to mention, it’s different — not many people will pull one off, so be bold and trendy!

4. It’s a GREAT way to bring in hot summer trends without trying too hard. For example, tangerine is a “hot” color right now, grab a tangerine scarf rather than a tangerine top. Try polka dots, paisley, yellow, pink, etc.

5. It’s an easy accessory that you can just toss right on while you’re heading out the door. You don’t need to think about it, you just grab and go!
