Oh, my GOODNESS… how do people do this every weekend??
Well, it’s official. I finished 13.1 miles this morning in 2 hours and 44 minutes. My brother (OMG, I have one of the best brother’s in the world) ran with me the whole time helping me out. He knew I wasn’t ready for this race, so he took it slow with me and helped me pace the whole time. It was exactly what I needed.
At the beginning of the race, all I could think of was 2 things:
1) This 1/2 Marathon is nothing compared to where Matt was back in January
2) And… I’ve had 4 kids, I can do this, right?
I was sick to my stomach with nerves and shaking in my sneakers this morning… not the best combination, but I refused to give up. The strategy my brother had for me was… run the whole time, but walk the hills and stop at every drink station to fuel up and stretch. And that’s exactly what we did!
It also helped to have my family there cheering us on! My husband and sons… my parents… my sister… my sister-in-law and niece and nephew… and my other brother and his wife and kids! It was amazing to see and feel the support.
Here’s my video finishing up!
