mycharitywater.org: a breakfast pictorial

I’ve written about my deep admiration for 8-year old Bridger Anderson and his passion for clean water through BB’s Clean Water for Christmas Campaign.

And what’s very, very important to me is helping Bridger raise funds for clean water projects… especially through the hearts, hands and knowledge of my own 9 grandchildren, who have so much to be thankful for.

For this reason, I keep a Piggy Bank prominently placed on my kitchen table during the holidays.  This Piggy Bank was a gift to me from my grandson Andrew last Christmas season.  It’s a little Piggy Bank as Piggy Banks go, but it’s come to be known in my home as A Pig with a Purpose

The Pig with a Purpose

This Pig with a Purpose gets us talking about people, and kids, who need us to participate in their lives… people who need food, clothing, schools, shelter, and water… things we too often take for granted as we gather with our families around our kitchen tables.

The beautiful part about these conversations is that kids are moved to participate… how can we help?

We talk about the things we can do in our own communities and we talk about things like raising funds for projects like Bridger’s… water projects across the globe… for people, for kids.

This is what happens when kids realize that kids need kids… and that there are kids like Bridger who inspire kids to fill a little Piggy Bank during breakfast with coins they’ve collected from parents’ and grandparents’ pockets & pocketbooks, in drawers, in coffee cup containers in cars, from under cushions and in giving up a gumball in a gumball machine or a turn at the Claw Machine…

Grand total:  $11.64 for clean water… for BB’s Clean Water for Christmas Campaign$11.64 toward a goal of $10,000. (That’s 23 tries at the Claw Machine, by the way!)

What must happen is awareness and a spirit of generosity and thoughtfulness that focuses on our bigger world rather than our own personal worlds.  This awareness finds its way into our hearts and into ways to stuff a little Piggy Bank with coins.

A boy named Bridger with a gigantic heart has given us a little pig with a BIG PURPOSE… and my grandkids have asked me to leave that Piggy Bank on our kitchen table all year long.

Thanks, Bridger, for your wonderful inspiration and your wonderful lessons!

Sharon!! I almost have the ugly cry going on after reading this!

I love how the boys can all fuel and inspire each other to go even further in their giving.

We now have our own Pig with a Purpose that will stay out all year, too!

Thank you William, Alex, Ben, and Henry. What great children you are!

    xo!
