Thankful for NYC…

I’m going to be writing some Thankful posts this month, I’m taking a cue from my friend Vera Sweeney who is doing this. I loved the idea to write about things that I’m thankful for throughout the month of November. Sometimes life gets so busy and so crazy, you don’t have time to stop and actually be thankful in the moment… this month, I’m vowing (OK… trying really hard!) to do this.

Today I’m thankful for NYC.

When we left NYC in 2005, I never thought I’d miss it. We moved to a small, quiet neighborhood where everyone seems to know everyone. I loved it. But then something very “strange” happened, I began to miss NYC more and more and more. I missed the sounds of the City. I missed the people in the City. I missed having everything “awake” all the time in the City. I missed the smells of the City (crazy, I know!). I just began to really miss it… but with 4 boys, there’s really no way we’re moving back.

So I’m thankful that my work brings me here. And often!

Coming here for work is the best possible thing for me… I get my dose of the City and then I go home. Just when I’m about to miss it again, I get to come back. It’s the perfect NYC relationship.

This morning I woke up at my friend’s apartment and smiled… look at this view…

Gorgeous… if only you could hear the sounds with it!

I’m so glad I found your blog through the Manic Mommies! I have really enjoyed reading all of y’alls posts!

I’m from Houston, TX, the 4th largest city in the USA. We moved to a town of 32,000 people 3 years ago. I miss Houston so much it hurts. I go back often to see family and friends, but it’s not the same as living there. I also miss the people, the sites, the constant action, the smells and everything else that goes with the city!

OH! Audrey! I love NYC, too. I never had the opportunity to live there, but I studied there for a year (going back and forth from Chicago to NYC) and I SO got the big apple bug! Thank you for sharing and bringing me back. Lucky me, I have work there in January! 🙂
