Daily Dish: Thankful for Rainbows

In continuing my Thankful posts… today I’m thankful for Rainbows.

My Nana passed away on August 8, 2008.

8-8-8… wasn’t a good day for me.

My Nana was someone in my life who I loved so deeply and so very much, that even now… 3 years later, it still really hurts.  My heart actually aches as I write this.

I wasn’t with my Nana when she passed away, I couldn’t have been… it would have been too much for me to handle.  My father (her son), my mother, my uncle and my brothers were there.  When she passed away, my mother called to tell me… she had been very, very sick, so I knew that when I got the call, she would be at peace.  But… regardless, it was still extremely hard for me to hear the news.

My in-laws happened to be visiting that week when she passed away.  I almost couldn’t think straight after I got the news, I needed to do something, get out of the house.  My mother-in-law had been wanting to go to Walmart to get something for the boys… so I offered to take her.  As we were driving, out of NOWHERE a huge dark thunderstorm hit.  I kept thinking… “This is exactly how I feel right now.”

I dropped my mother-in-law off at the door and drove around the parking lot to wait for her.  At one point, I just stopped the car and said out loud, “I will miss you Nana…”

And again… out of nowhere. The thunderstorm just stopped and rolled on by.

And with that… a GORGEOUS rainbow filled the sky.  A full one, not a 1/2 one.  I just stared at it in full amazement and wonder.

That was a sign from my Nana…

So from that day on, whenever I see a rainbow, I think of my Nana.  Even my sons do it, too.  The other night Benjamin came into the bathroom to get me and said, “Nana Flo is near the fish tank.”  And low and behold, there was a rainbow reflecting off the tank.

So as I’m sitting here on the train heading home… and thankful to be seeing my boys soon… I looked out the window and saw a little rainbow.  It made me smile.

It made me thankful that I have them.
