How to put together a quick, easy, fashionable outfit

If you were in my house right at this very moment, you would hear the TV playing, the radio blaring sports talk (someone hold me… ), Ben and Alex shouting at each other while playing the Wii, Henry coughing and William is playing a Smurf game, so all I hear is Smurf music (la, la, la-la, la, la…) throughout my house.

Putting it simple, my house in the morning is chaotic and loud and full of life.

As the mom, I get to try and wrangle it all together — my job in the morning? Make sure the boys are fed, changed and ready for school. Make sure the kitchen is semi-clean after breakfast. And to make sure all the homework and lunches are in the “right” backpacks.

Oh, yes… and get myself ready.

In the past 2 years, I’ve become somewhat of an expert in tossing together quick, easy, fashionable outfits that don’t require much thought or much time prepping… I don’t know about you, but I don’t have time to stand in front of my closet for an hour every morning trying to pull outfits. I need quick, fast and easy — but I still want to look good.

I wanted to share 2 tips today…

First up… MONOCHROMATIC, and don’t be afraid to have a little fun on the shoes!

Usually people go with the color black when they’re dressing monochromatically. I like to mix it up a bit by going with different colors – brown, gray, white and (my fave) navy. I grabbed a pair of navy cords, a navy sweater and just put it together. I decided to have a little fun on the shoes, so I tossed on my black wedge boots. I was wearing this outfit to go speak to students in the Journalism department of University of Rhode Island and I felt so comfortable. I even added my “go-to” gold coin necklace.

Next tip… bring out those leggings and tunics!

Don’t be scared… leggings/tunics are still very trendy and can be worn (and pulled off) by any woman (ahem… or mom)! This is what I love about leggings and tunics and how you can make it work… go with solid colors and if you have any “add-on” pieces (a.k.a. long vest, long blazer, long scarf – bring it on!). I really feel like the add-on pieces are what helps pull the legging/tunic outfit all together. With this outfit, I had black leggings with a black tunic-tank. I know I needed something extra, so I added a black long vest. I felt comfortable and very “chic” as I was heading out the door to a Parenting Expo to speak. And again, I went with monochromatic. 🙂

These are my daily fashion mom tips for you!
