Happy 7th Birthday, William!

7 years ago today was very much like today… a balmy, lovely late September day.

It was a perfect day for apple picking.

Well, if we weren’t waiting for a baby, that is.

Our entire family had traveled from Rhode Island to New York City to welcome Audrey and Matt’s first baby.  We knew the baby was a boy.  We knew his name was William Tillman.  We knew the date, September 25th, was his due date.  We knew he was surrounded with love beyond love.

But we didn’t know William yet.

At 1:55 pm, we did know William!  And our world has never been the same since…

The first moment I held William... !

William fills his days with deep thoughts, deep humor, deep kindnesses and deep, deep LOVE.  He loves to learn and soaks up information like the proverbial sponge.  He rattles off words, scientific concepts, mathematical statistics and the like… like nothing I’ve ever seen or heard.

And he’s funny.  William can make you laugh when you least expect it, in both the most raucous or understated way.

Little did we know 7 years ago… seriously, little did we know… that before William turned 4, he’d be the BIG brother to 3 more little guys.  At the moment, for 3 days only, William is 7 and his brothers are 5, 4 and 3.  William enjoys this…

"Arrrrrrr... " William among his pirate brothers!

And what a BIG brother William is.  He teaches all kinds of things to his brothers.  He takes care of them.  He cares about them.  His love multiplies with the moments.

Yes, 7 years have flown by since the moment I held William for the very first time.

But that doesn’t mean that William doesn’t STILL indulge Pops and me for a traditional birthday photograph…

Today is a balmy, lovely late September day.

It’s a perfect day for apple picking… which is exactly what William has chosen to do with his Mom, Dad and brothers…

Or, rather… PIRATES!

Joyous.  Perfect.  LOVE!
